If this is true it will get attention from sources other than Reddit

The tags are printed off in the room. Those tags never leave the room, not on someone's wrist/ankle for this very reason. The days of switched at birth are gone without some type of bad intentions on the part of hospital personnel.

Also, the ankle tag and/or the umbilical cord clip has an RFID chip in it that will sound an alarm if the baby leaves the area.

Yeah, our daughter was born in September of 2021 via c-section and they tagged her and us before anybody left the operating room. Also, there was very much a staffed nursery, though, they did prefer us to keep her in the room with us as much as possible.

The whole nursery situation was phased out years ago.

The biggest swing and a miss in this thread.

I have a 4 and a 1 year old. Much different situations pre- and post-covid, but it definitely still exists, and is a god send for trying to get some damn sleep.

but what on earth do you do next? Swap kids? Find yours? Continue on as if nothing happened?

You have to combine families at that point. As a husband, best case is the other mom who has your bio kid is a hot single mom. Your wife has to let you bange her too since it's best for the kids.

Same and I live in a large city.

I'll never forget my first. Sleeping on a shitty couch in the room. The cart they wheeled her on squeaked and I remember the dread of hearing it come toward the room.

Never been so tired in my life.

I have heard for a very long time that this is uncommon to be sure, but not as uncommon as one would think.

I remember when we had our first kid, the hospital made us do all sorts of things and sign off like the baby was a chain of custody deal with evidence for a murder trial. I thought it was kind of odd, but after I thought about it, I was thankful that they took such precautions after hearing multiple horror stories like this...including a dude I went to high school with.

I couldn't imagine.

Except for circumcision surgery, you are correct.

One of the biggest surprises to me is the sheer amount of people who descended on the room as my wife was about to give birth. It's one nurse and the delivering doctor for however long, then BAM like 8 nurses show up and get in position

Pretty impressive TBH. But I guess perhaps that increases the chaos and could provide cover for a mistake (still seems unlikely).

and keep the babies in the rooms with the parents for at least the last 10 years

I have 3 kids all under 10 and the nursery was available for all of them. We used it for one or two of the kids, for a few hours so we could sleep a bit.

I find it odd that neither parent noticed the baby looked different. All babies look the same until one you helped make cones into the world. I could have picked all of mine out of lineup within 5 minutes of meeting them. What a wild situation.

At this point, you either just roll with it or become REALLY good friends with the other couple thst got the wrong merchandise.

My kids look exactly like my wife, could be triplets so no doubt they’re hers. Now if they’re mine could still be in doubt.

Neither parent is biologically the parent. Obviously she was just an incubator for the spawn of satan

Shouldn't be too hard to find their biological child.

Do both families jsut throw up their hands and be like "well it's already been 5 years so this is fine"

idk man, at that point you've seen them go from rolling over to crawling to standing to walking, first words, first real conversation, spent 5 years worth of birthdays and holidays together, etc. And they're about to start school at that age. It's a horrible thing to find out but I could never imagine swapping a child you've made that many memories with for another even if it is for your real biological child.

After reading the first two my thoughts were:

1. She cheated.
2. The hospital sent the wrong kid home with them.

Looks like #2 was the correct answer but it makes you wonder if sometimes ignorance isn't really bliss.
