Well they have to explain to people that you're not supposed to run generators indoors too.

Idiocracy was a prophecy.

So far in your opinion, is this the storm of the century? Worse than Katrina and Rita?

They have DOW-6 just South of Sarasota Springs unless they moved it over the past few hours. I keep looking for an update, but it may be a while.

Flash flooding is going to be a serious issue in the corridor from Bradenton/Tampa to Orlando, just due to the rainfall.

Milton will break the streak of Hurricanes undergoing rapid intensification just prior to landfall in the Gulf of Mexico. Milton was already a mature Category 5 that then encountered wind shear, so it went through its RI episode days prior. The Gulf of Mexico is a small basin relative to the rest of the Atlantic, so hurricanes don't have a long residence time, especially if they are moving steadily along at 10-15 mph. They always encounter land. The formation of Milton in the far SW Gulf of Mexico was highly unusual and it had plenty of time w/weak steering currents to explosively deepen to 897 mb central pressure and then almost repeat that feat after an eyewall replacement cycle.
