How Used Hilton Hotel Soaps Get Recycled
Posted by rickgrimes

quote:
Clean the World is a nonprofit organization that recycles used soaps, lotions, and other toiletries from hotels. Its partners include Hilton, Marriott, and Walt Disney World Resorts, among others. Clean the World has donated over 50 million bars of recycled soap to people in need in 127 countries since its founding in 2009. The organization has had to adapt as more hotel chains move away from single-use toiletries in favor of bulk offerings.

I feel bad that they waste all this cool stuff on people in the 3rd world and the homeless when normal people like me would love free soap and t shirts from teams that lost the national championship

If any lesson had been learned in east Africa, stop interfering
.By employing people in the US to send soaps abroad, every recipient country has poor people put out of work. The poor people who used to collect fat from restaurants and abattoirs. render it down and with ash make soap and sell it. Now they and the people who worked for them are unemployed.

I always remember on the bus ride from the GRU airport to our hotel off Paulista, we'd ride along this big drainage canal for a few miles and you'd see people taking a "shower" standing on the bank of the canal underneath drainage pipes draining into the big canal, and it was always cold in the mornings when we'd drive by, these people were getting ready to go to work that day

You mean if I use the bar of soap on my arse and leave arse hair all over it but don’t use the whole bar it gets recycled and used again by some unsuspecting arse soap user?

These guys were on Dirty Jobs a few weeks ago. It was a good episode. Amazing how they get all the pubes out.

Came across that on a YouTube binge the other day. That's pretty cool.
I also saw where they recycle plastic into building bricks in Nigeria. That was a good idea. Tina of plastic and when all mixed together is a dark thick solid mass. This way it can be used and really poor get building materials.

Is it used as in the package is open or used as in the room was occupied but they didn’t utilize the soap?
If it’s unopened I fail to see the issue. I’ve actually wondered if they even replace soap bars if they’re unopened

I went to a store in the quarter before the 2003 nc game, I wasn’t taking any chances, I talked to the manager and said I know you’ve got them, let me see them, he took me into a back room and showed them to me, shirts for us and okie, I said I’d like twenty of them, he didn’t really protest much as I was peeling off DPs, he just weakly asked that I didn’t have anyone wear them until after the game
