a-hole in the video gives all outdoorsmen a bad name.
I just don't get this sentiment.
I'm an outdoorsman, probably more of a bleeding heart animal lover/tree hugger than most who post here and see nothing wrong with the ending.
All animal encounters that end badly could have been done differently, but I can't fault the guy for what he did.
Moose have been known to stay around for hours exhibiting aggressive behavior, following people and sometimes it's life threatening.
I am not going to judge this guy a distance.
Man killed by moose on UAA campus.
Guy tried to get away, the moose chases, man slips and falls and moose stomps him to death. There's video available, not gonna link it.
Let's say he tries to turn in deep snow, gets stuck and trampled. I'll bet many folks would have thought he should have shot when charged initially if the outcome was different.

Eh, after I watched the video more closely traymoose didn't turn around for round 3 until Zimmerman racked the slide. That prompted the 3rd attack.

I wonder if that was a .40 cal or a 45

but the moose came at him twice, looked like it was going for round three. I find it hard to blame the guy.

Moose generally aren't that familiar with that sound but if I'm sitting there with a 10mm and moose turns for round three, I'm not spending a lot of time doing psychoanalysis.

quote:Yep...people just jumping to conclusions here. Maybe he had his kid behind him and sped off quickly in case the moose got back up. After he got into the open field where it was safe for the individual behind him, he went back to finish the job.
Me may have gone back.

That thing would have stomped his skull to pieces. No problem here.

Who cares. It's just a moose

If the guy leaves the Moose alone in the 1st place, it doesn't happen.

Could he have handled it differently at the start? Sure. We all make decisions that sometimes we look back on and wish we had done differently.
But after the beginning and the Moose gets aggressive he had no choice and did what he had to do. I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing in that situation. For that reason I can't fault the guy.

This would probably be true for 100% of animal encounters. Unfortunately we cross paths from time to time.
I've had them attack my car. There's nothing you can do if a moose is in the road or path and decides it's not moving. Sometimes you try to urge them a little.

He didn't need to shoot it.

Your opinion might differ if you were sitting in that snowmachine.

I would have turned around and left it alone.
Only then if it followed me would I take action.
To me, the snowmobiler somewhat enticed the animal.
But that's just my opinion.

Better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6.

Good luck if you get stuck in the snow berm.

Good luck shooting behind your back.

He didn't. But he didn't do much to deter it.

frick that dude. That was a baby moose and he could have very easily avoided the thing. Just look at it for a few minutes and watch it walk of. What a twat.
