Good job. He prevented that moose from attacking someone else.

what should have happened from the beginning is the snowmobile guy should have backed off.
May not have been much of an option, and waiting could have meant hours. They are usually in no hurry

I've read the entire thread and not one person mentions that the snowmobile is on a path with at least 2 feet of snow on each side. Turning that thing around would be like trying to turn around a four wheeler in deep mud, it wouldn't have happened very quickly. If that thing has reverse, it is probably not very fast, the moose surely can out run it and going in reverse without looking to see where you were going (keeping an eye on the moose) would have been disaster. even going around the moose through the deep snow would have not worked. The snowmobile could have done it, but not at full speed (once again, it would be like driving a 4-wheeler through deep mud)
It seems to me the first round missed him and didn't spook it, because it was still charging after the 2nd round.

Most people on here are from south Louisiana and have no idea what snowmobiling is.

I think he's right and a little wrong. But I'm not the guy on a snowmobile with patrons, probably the only one with protection. I'm assuming he's not in a dangerous neighborhood, so why carry the gun to begin with? He may be a guide for a lodge and is familiar with the land and wildlife. Just maybe from his experience he knew he had no other choice, I assume. That's my hypothetical thought on it.

all of that is irrelevant, IMO
to avoid, he had 2 options
1) wait till it crossed the trail as soon as he came across the moose
2) definitely wait or slowly back up once it mock charged the first time
definitely NOT move closer towards it when it just fricking charged at you
jesus, how is this difficult to understand?

Actually, I did mention that I didn't see any other way around, so maybe you didn't read the entire thread.

Nope, I've mentioned the fact that moving off the path may not have been an option.
1) Get stuck
2) May be illegal. Some areas have strict snomachine paths.
Not sure what was behind the guy, but going back may not have been an option either.

Looks like the dude got pissed the moose clubbed him and decided to off him.
Probably could have avoided it but oh well.

He was protecting himself and his son. The video cuts off so I don't think we know exactly what happens next. It appears to me that he cleared the scene and was looking to stop once he was certain he and his son were safe. Perhaps he walked back and finished the job. Perhaps he called and reported the incident.
IMO he looked like he knew what he was doing and was aware of the dangerous situation. Why else would he carry a weapon while out on a joyride?

I dunno man. Why did the ex-cop that shot the dude for texting carry the weapon while going to the movies? Means little to me.
After looking at the video he probably could have avoided the situation but shite happens. He likely can talk his way out of it.

Exactly. The video is ugly to look at for some and I think a lot of responses are knee jerk reactions to the couple minutes of video.

This thread didn't go like you expected, did it, OP? a-hole in the video gives all outdoorsmen a bad name.

I wouldn't have made noises like that with the moose a considerable distance away.
i think you're supposed to make noise to get them to leave you alone

There was nothing boss about that.

I assume he had a conceal carry which made it legal. However, just because you can do something legally doesn't necessarily always make it a good idea.
If that moose would have been a bear would the court of public opinions react the same?

Most of the time they'll move. After they charge, the best thing is to retreat as fast as possible. His situation made that a bit difficult.

That'll be some awesome advertising for GLOCK to take down a Grizzly. Think both are easily dangerous and shouldn't turn your back on them. But I'd rather not be eaten death than clubbed by a Moose. If there was a choice.
