Say you received a call from somebody who wanted your phone number. They were born September 21, 1995 and want to buy the number you own ie. 225-921-1995.

How much over $350 would you want to charge? Would you try to profit or let the person have it plus something for the inconvenience of transferring the number.

Weird enough my number IS actually a variation of my birthday. I've had it for a long time. I'd probably let it go for five digits.

Haven't ever thought about it but idk. I've had the same phone number since I got my first cell phone nearly 21 years ago so it may be crazy but it'd be tough to part with.

I have a bunch of business cards with my number on it. I would let it go for free just to let some of my customers aggravate the frick out of someone else for awhile.

When my parents got me my first cell phone years ago the last 4 digits happened to be the month and day of my mother’s birthday in order. She took that and gave me her original number.

I actually sold my cell number with a 985 area code years ago for several hundred dollars. I believe it was just under $1,000. Some company wanted certain area code/prefix combinations.

The numbers are carrier specific. Check it out on EBay. Some vanity numbers are worth thousands.

My phone number ain’t anything special. I’ve had it since 2005, though. I’d let it go for the $350 mentioned.

My email address is for sale too. I’ve been offered $5k for it. I didn’t accept it. I told that guy “$10k and you can have it.”

I was one of the first to sign up for Apple’s MobileMe. My email and my (ex) wife’s email is our first name@me.com. We both still have them. The @me still works even though Apple transitioned every one to @icloud. So I have both email addresses now.

When I was at LSU, my number was 767-**** (my name). Sold it for a liter of Jim Beam. Gotta have your priorities.

My number was originally the number for my pager. Can't imagine parting with it

After my parents died, I transferred the number they had for 60 years to my cell. It's easy for me to remember, and not for sale.

I’ve sold a couple of .com domains that I staked. Both 4 characters which are increasingly rare. $800 for the first one (circa 2001) and $1500 for the second one (2015). I’ve since staked some unique telephone numbers (985 and 318 area codes) via Google Voice. No formal marketing, but I figure they’ll find me if they’re interested. Probably sell those for $500 or so. As far as my old cell number—I’d let that go cheap just to put distance between myself and anyone I’ve given it to over the past 28ish years.

Semi-related to OP: The originator of 1-800-GOT-JUNK actually got the number from a public agency in Idaho IIRC. Heard him relate the story on a podcast. Said he called whatever the agency was for several straight months before they finally relented and gave it to him.
