And why aren’t there more businesses to offset the demand? Local daycares all have a 6+ month wait and cost 2-3k a month. Seems lucrative and demand is there

The costs are driven by teacher salary and minimum children/teacher quotas. Daycares are only allowed a certain number of children per teacher/aide. That's why the costs are so high and the waitlists so long.

Children 3 years, 13:1;

Not at all once you pay employee salary. The young ones are expensive bc of worker to child ratio.

quote:

In Louisiana, the minimum child-to-staff ratio for daycare workers depends on the age of the children:
Under 1 year: 1 staff member for every 5 children
1 year: 1 staff member for every 7 children

2–3 years: 1 staff member for every 11 children
3–4 years: 1 staff member for every 13 children
4–5 years: 1 staff member for every 15 children
5–6 years: 1 staff member for every 19 children

Because the helicopter parents lose their shite when you slap one of their kids around a bit to maintain the peace. You have to let them run rampant and not many people can handle that.

It’s ashame the new norm is for people not to raise their own kids anymore. Guess it’s more important to have dual incomes to drive those $70k vehicles around and keep up with the Jones’s.

I'm in Maryland where the minimal child-to-staff ratio is 1 staff member for every 3 children less than 2 years old. My $2312/mo cost for a toddler reflects this.

It just doesn’t make sense. You’re doing your child a disservice if you can make more working vs price of daycare

There’s a family that runs one out of their house down the street. I thought those would be shut down.

Are people really paying this for one kid? That's equivalent to a decent house payment....Forget having kids these days if true.
