re: How do you feel about your job saying “ We are a team” and “ We are a family here”

Whenever people ask me how work is going, I always say..."They keep paying me and I keep showing up. If one of us stops, the other will too".

Team is correct. Family is not.

Don't forklift certs typically have a 3 year cycle?
ETA...HAZMAT definitely has a refresher requirement.

Hearing that and not responding is part of the job.
Team oriented might actually mean something at most firms. But they might be saying that to combat a problem with their culture. The family part is what’s weird. But either way just do your work and get paid. Try to follow their guidance as best as possible. All you can do is your best.
And if it doesn’t feel right, move on.

I've firsthand seen the pitfalls of that "family" or "we're all besties" approach to the workforce. F that mantra.

My immediate co-workers and the people I most like to be around at work gave presents to each other a few years back at Christmas.
I got a personalized item that said "Team Player" and a rubber ink stamp that said "not my job", along with something that said "My level of sarcasm depends on your level of stupidity".
I hide those things from the higher-ups when they happen to come around spouting all that team/family crap. I know who really has my back at work.

Some companies require a yearly certification

You have meetings every morning? Tell them that family doesn't have to meet every morning.

If they're a team then who are they playing this week and what's their record? What a crock.

It's a load of BS when this stuff is constantly thrown out in meetings and in posts. Unless you are at the top, you're a pawn and would be removed/replaced from the "Family" no problem.

A family will be there for each other when everyone is broke, people are dying, and there is no economic interest with each other.
Your job and people you work with are not your family.

Generally, I have found that the teams that don't say garbage like that are closer than the ones that do.
But, regardless, with the occasional exceptions, I don't want to be a "family" with my coworkers anyways. I have enough family/friends that I just want to do my ob and go home at the end of the day.
Of course, if I was in a field where my coworkers had similar ages/interests, it might be different.

It’s fricking bullshite designed to elicit emotional attachment to your job. You’ll find out much emotion your company has for you when it comes time to lay folks off because the executives did something stupid.

It is very tiresome mainly because my boss is a dumb arse. Used to be great friends and he was a good mentor. Now he just lies and makes dumb decisions and no one likes nor respects him. We don’t hang out anymore and on top of that he attends crazy church and thinks he needs to save us all. Luckily, his mismanagement doesn’t affect my position much at all.

Sad that you millenials have so little love in your heart for your work family. I guess that’s what happens when you jump from job to job. Us boomers knew true loyalty and our work family was like a band of brothers

Every employer I've ever known that said "we're just one big family here" was a complete and total Jerry Springer level trailer trash shite show.
