How do you feel about your job saying “ We are a team” and “ We are a family here”

We have meetings just about every morning and they always preach this. A team is what I do for fun and my family is at home I don’t know I’m probably in the minority but I just don’t get into the rah rah every day

"We're a team" is fine.

"We're a family" is manipulative BS.

You are my coworkers, not my family.

Yea no. I let them believe it. But if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

It's like saying "Trust me". You should absolutely not trust that person. If you have to constantly say you're a team or a family, then you're neither. It's either true or it isn't, and no amount of speaking it out loud will make it true, only actions.

They are not my family and they are not my friends.

Your employer will drop you on your arse if it is more profitable without you. Some people's family might do the same thing, but generally, not.

If the natural relationships with people at work aren't enjoyable, saying cliche office things isn't going to change that.

Everyone is a "team" at work...until the team's actions are adverse to their own self interests.

Some work environments are unapologetically cutthroat. Others, really do try to work as a team as much as possible. But still, there comes a point where someone's self interests outweigh the "team" and that person will always act accordingly.

None of the if even close to the truth.

You are always replaceable. Someone will gladly cut your throat to save themselves, and if something happened or they got bought out , the owner would file bankruptcy to get out of having to pay everyone money

Always remember... HR is designed to protect the interests of the company and the executives, not the employees.

safety, safety, safety. We spend more time here than we do with our families. You don't want your time here to jeopardize your time with your real family. Be safe, look out for your co-workers. It is going to be rainy today so watch out. Lets get to work.

Hey dire wolf, I know you are in sales for a decade but are you still forklift certified? We are bowed up, I need you to unload some hazmat deliveries coming in

Not necessarily the employer saying it, but every freaking car dealership commercial makes sure they hammer home the point that you're not a customer, you're family. . . Which is hilarious because the second you set foot in the dealership, they're scheming on how to phuck you 10 ways to Sunday.

Mindless corporate platitudes and virtue signaling.

Having been in the board room at a place that spouted drivel like that I can promise you many if not most places don’t mean a word of it at the executive level.

This. You can’t speak culture into existence. You either have it or you don’t. Your boss is a person that read about how a good culture will produce wins and they care about wins. They’re focusing on the wrong end of the equation. Focus on the team and what they need. Wins will come as a result if you have the right players on the team.

This is the correct answer but it gets harder to do the closer you get to retirement age.
