The whole thing about dividing up the generations is arbitrary and kind of pointless. For example someone born in 1960 is linked in with someone born in 1941 but someone born just a year later is lumped in with people born in 1980. It’s not necessary, how hard is it to just base it off of the year someone was born and the time they grew up in based off of that as opposed to these arbitrarily defined generations?
It's a marketing device

The conventional wisdom is a new pop culture generation comes into existence every seven years. This is why there are so many rebootings of movie franchises. If a movie studio released Poodleman vs The Green Gerbil seven years ago, they know it's time to reboot.

The real answer is that it’s a rolling thing, it’s ever changing, it’s not like all of the sudden after a five or ten year period there is a sudden shift. 1978-1983 is no more different than 1980-1985.

Good point, it’s directly related to the end of WWII, but not going back before that would mess up the nice 20 year increments, just another example why the whole thing is stupid.

If you think someone born in the mid-80’s has anything in common with someone born in 2000, then I don’t know what to tell you.

1995 is a better cutoff for millennials. Smartphones became a big deal when the kids born in 2000 were in elementary school.

Generational definitions are dumb. Tons of people in each generation that don’t have the same morals, attitude, ethics, etc.

I don't.

Shitty people exist in every generation and trying to paint a person as good, bad or indifferent based on the year they were born is stupid.

I was born in 87, my SiL was born in 95. She basically doesn’t remember life without the internet, I was coming of age when the internet became a big deal. We grew up completely differently.

You do realize this is nothing but a marketing ploy. There is no such thing as generations.

Do you think the same generations applies equally across the world?

So you asking this question and trying to establish these things is just good for marketing and trying to take your money.

As always the youngest people are spoiled and don’t know how good they have it.

Good for discussions I suppose but the lines blur between each.

Why do we divide the generations? Isn't there enough division in this world?

Why do we want to divide the generations? I'm 73. A boomer. I have sons that are in 2 different groups. These boys mean everything to me. I want to not be divided from them in any way. I raised them to be successful and have helped many others along the way. I don't want to be divided from any of them.

Why do we want to divide the generations? I only thought those boys were my life. They married girls that I immediately considered to be the same as daughters. Then those girls began to have kids. I'm a grandfather X 8 of kids considered to be in the last 2 groups. When I look at the world problems I don't even consider what it means to me. My years left are few. My concern is only for the kids that I have that the world is trying to divide from me.

We were all born and raised under differing circumstances which effects who we are. I was raised in a house that was 3' off the ground, no insulation anywhere, space heaters, and no A/C. We had to deal with mice, roaches and more. It would kill me to live like that now but I litterally LOVED my childhood. .. Yeah, it was great for me but I made sure we had a well insulated brick house with heat & A/C to raise my boys in. We even had a "colored" tv that we could play games on. ... but oh my goodness, look at what the living conditions are for my grandkids ... and I am sooo glad they have it so good.

And yet I worry every day about their future and spend a part of my income and time trying to have something there for them if this all goes bad.

We are all in this together.

To recognize trends, pretty easy to understand if you passed 4th grade math

Math has nothing to do with this.

Nowhere in here is math, at any grade level, involved.

If there are no blurred lines, if you see only math then you are part of the problem.

Look deeper into the mental aspect and become part of the solution instead of the problem.

Follow the science instead of the money and the libtards.

I've never even heard of that gradoo, but I will say that most sources I've seen do have that 77ish through early 80s period as a grey area. And it makes me with sad, mad, or both. Falling in that period, it's like I don't really have a home. Like a baby born on leap year. An orphan.

Xennial?? shite isn't even in autofill.
