How do you contribute to your community?

Do you coach, ref, ump, or assist with a local children’s sports?
Are you a school crossing guard?
Do you consistently volunteer at a charity?
Do you pick up litter when you’re walking?
Do you bring other people’s shopping carts from the parking lot so that others can use them?
Do you sit back and watch TV, complain on your smart phone, while thinking that you pay more in taxes than you consume?
In what way are you helping make the world a better place?

I hold the door open for anyone coming towards a door in a public place. I say thank you and have a good day.

You may, but many don’t realize what their actual tax bill is. They think that net vs gross on their pay check is taxes….not thinking about SS/medi/health/401 etc.
They don’t take into account that they have 2-3 kids in school at a public cost of 30k/year.

This is good, it’s life saving, and there seems to be a shortage of people who will donate even though nearly everyone can….but can’t be bothered to miss 30 mins of whatever a couple times a year.

This is overall a good thing, but I wouldn’t say it’s contributing. There are a lot of bad things people don’t do.
If you get a chance, watch Chris Rock’s “bigger blacker better” comedy routine. He mentions a certain derogatory group is always claiming credit for “shite you’re supposed to do”…..”I pay my bills”, I“ take care of my kids”….his comment, “you want a medal? You’re supposed to you stupid _____!”

It’s interesting, most of us use to laugh at those old men Masons with the funny hats at parades in those go carts…..why were they bad?
Those people were a gainfully employed, respected members of the community, who joined a social club that probably liked to drink, but did also do some good stuff in the community.
Have we, the holders of that baton, lost all sense of community for simple laziness?
