We see ancient presentations of women as being fat. I can't post nudes of paintings but they're not exactly skinny, they're all pretty much plump and fat.

How do we know that women were actually skinny ever? Maybe it's just a new thing. Chicks were eating lard and all that kind of stuff, and only recently started being vegan and s***.

How do we know skinny isn't new?

Being large was a sign of fetility. In a time when most first borns didn't live long, medicine wasn't a thing, life spans were short, and populations were small it was a pretty important factor.

It is. Being fat meant you had food which meant you had money which meant you had power. Now that food is largely not an issue, you’ve seen this go to the wayside

I don’t really care if it’s new, I prefer a woman who has some resemblance of care as opposed to some gelatinous blob that the way it is because it has no will power and must eat everything in sight.

It's actually quite the opposite now. Poor people are more likely to be morbidly obese.

I guess that makes sense, a third of babies today can't be born vaginally cuz the mother's too skinny?

Every day, roughly 10,000 babies are born in the United States, and about a third of them are born via Cesarean section.

So being chunky used to be a sign of wealth. When you literally have people starving in the streets, someone who is overweight is a sure sign of excess.

because the caloric content per acre was WAY less throughout history and the OG chicks actually had to work for food.

Rich chicks were fat back in the day - so really the attraction was to the wealth and power

Germans were painting petite women in the 1500s, and that was just the first search I did.

Elites always set the standard for beauty. During hard times, when lower class women worked out in the fields to make ends meet, they were thin and tan, so plump and fair were considered the ideal as it was a mark of someone with leisure time. During our modern time of plenty, lower class women tend to spend more time inside and less time exercising. Now, being fit and carrying a nice tan is a mark of leisure time, so that's the ideal.

It's never been a question of an objective ideal, but a moving target that the lower classes will strive for but never attain, as every time they do, the ideal will shift again.

i don't really like "skinny" but i'm disgusted by "fat". i think skinny is overused and/or misused word when describing bodies. i'd reckon most of the more universally lusted after women aren't really skinny.
