How different would Louisiana be if Disney decided to build Disney World in Louisiana?

It is pretty well know that Disney was down to Louisiana and Florida to build the Disney Land theme park. Florida obviously ended up winning that battle. Would Louisiana be any different if they would have got Disney to build in our state?

I think Walt would have died years earlier than he did from trying to deal with LA politicians.

Well from what I remember they wanted to build it on the outskirts of New Orleans and politics is basically what made them pull out and decide on Orlando. He was obviously a smart man to do so.

No he wasn’t. The last 3 locations were Florida, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Lol no. LA was definitely in the front running before corrupt politicians thought they were entitled to it.

Louisiana ends up voting blue the majority of the time due to the 1000’s of 23-25 year old dance majors who end up working minimum wage at Disney, and then quitting and moving back home to find real work when they turn 29 and start to drift conservative.

This ends up being enough that the rural parts of the state can’t outvote the urban parts (a la the Illinois method).

Have you been to Blue Bayou before or driven by it? That should give you an idea of what would become of a Disney World in BR.

How different would Louisiana be if the AF academy would have been in Mansfield? Believe it or not, that was a serious consideration at the time.

I honestly don't think the younger generations realize just how major a city New Orleans used to be, and by extension the influence it had in the South.

In my lifetime, it was still a legit rival to Atlanta as the premier Southern city, and it had a lot more unique culture. It really wouldn't have been a surprise if Disney had chosen Nola as the site.

My Father was a Louisiana State Representative for Baton Rouge in the 60's. He said that almost all the Representatives and Senators wanted a payout for Walt to build Disney World in Louisiana. Needless to say they were just out to line their pockets not caring about the future of Louisiana. Walt, who was a notorious cheapskate said no. The Reps and Senators, at least the ones on the take, said then build somewhere else which is exactly what Walt did. BTW, my Father said he wasn't on the take. I believed him that he wasn't on the take.
