It honestly sucks. Wife and I make $140k together and live in a low COL state. We don't have an extravagant house and drive average cars and it still feels like we can't really get ahead. We are blessed with what we have and I feel bad for others who are less fortunate than we are, it's just shitty all around.

Ditto.

Slowly learning to stop eating out, it’s good food but making me fat and poor

Seems to be happening. Most people I know have only 1 or 2 (if any). Don’t seem to be many with 3 anymore

Yep Idiocracy was a prophetic masterpiece. A couple more generations like this and the idiots will outnumber the productive members of society as the current norm is to reward and praise the lowest amongst us while crushing those that are self reliant and responsible.

The government’s response to Covid was Trump’s call, not Biden’s. Biden continued what Trump did, then wound down those policies.

Anyone who sees massive Covid spending and blames Biden is betraying that they only want to ignore reality and blame the party they don’t like.

Explain to me why Biden's administration spent the entire first 2 years in office saying inflation was only TRANSITORY, smart guy? Explain to me why Biden shut down transportation pipelines and O&G leases on literally Day 1 in office? Explain to me how Biden "wound down" Trump's policies on Covid when Biden was the only one to force vaccines on the American public? Doesn't sound like "wound down," sounds more like Biden ramped it up.

Yeah it’s a good $40-50 to even cook a modest meal these days for my family of five if I want any left overs.

Me personally I was poor for years during college. Worked and put myself through college. Went to medical school where I was even more poor.

I finished residency and did a year of fellowship. Saved, saved, saved, and did more saving during those years.

Now I have a very good job and make a decent living.

I don't know how people that are paycheck to paycheck earners are living. In our house the wife and I are making good money. In fact the wife got a substantial raise in taking a new job about 2 years ago, so our income has increased. However, with inflation it seems it does not matter.
I noticed that before 2020 we were living incredibly well. No debt except for the house. We were traveling often and eating out a good amount. Even though our household income has gone up by about $40K since then we are no longer living that life. It is just too expensive to travel and eat out as much as we did.
We have 3 kids. One in college, and two about to go. We have planned for that for them. But we have also tightened the belt in our home.

If I had a kid or kids I'd have to get really creative with expenses. My gf and I make plenty combined, live a modest, pretty minimalist lifestyle. Live in a very affordable apartment, eat in mostly, leftovers for lunch most days, don't go to bars, just breweries sometimes. We have low car payments, no student loans, or significant debt. Our hobbies are mostly outdoors based, so we don't spend a lot of money having fun for the most part. Yet we can barely put anything in savings these days. Its all good, I try not to worry about it to much, we live a good life, but yeah, I don't see how a lot of people are making it.

I see $140k/year has become the new "I'm 6'3" "

Everyone here seems to make that as a baseline

There is always a part of me that wonders this. Part of me thinks maybe they just make that much money. I know we don't have any debt and aren't living paycheck to paycheck. We drive old cars and don't frivolously spend money. It's not like people really brag about being in debt so there could be a lot of that going around.

We do okay, and can survive at least the current prices, but I went to the store the other day, didn't buy any meat, and had 3 of those plastic sacks of groceries, and it was $80.
It's unreal how expensive things are now.

We have cut back on our spending. We only do take out when we eat out now to avoid the drinks and big tip.

Never thought we would see the day where eating out is cheaper than eating at home.

I just received news today that I owe the government 20 k from 2022. This as my business, due to market forces, is down 50% year to year. The government is basically begging small business to close shop. I just don’t see the end game here.

I believe the poster said joint household income is $140k a year. Not sure how that equates to the new 6'3" baseline, that seems modestly honest.

Jerome Powell was nominated by Trump, not Biden. Not saying the rest of your post is inaccurate but the Fed Reserve Chairman who told everyone inflation was transitory was a Trump guy
