My parents, both in their 70's, are simple people from a simple time. They don't have wifi at home because they really don't need it much. If there's one thing my dad loves it's his Saints & Pelicans. Last night, i saw a commercial for NFL games that will stream on Amazon this year and it got me thinking how upset he'll be to not be able to sit in his recliner and enjoy those games. Online streaming is like another world to them and some older people like them. It just made me wonder how shitty it must be to watch the world change around you and not be able to adapt. What are some things bigger than football that our elders just don't understand anymore?

Not being able to or not wanting to? Big difference.

They can. They just don't want to. My grandpa was not like this. He was always interested in new tech. My parents aren't the same. They are slipping into ambivalence.

Happens to everybody to one degree or another, and it starts early. If you're older than about 25, pop culture is not marketing to you.

I’m not that old, but I kinda feel it. It seems like change is happening now at a rate that previous generations didn’t have to deal with. It may be my skewed perspective that makes me think that, but I do.

It's why gen X fricking rules.

The last generation that could program a VCR, remembers 8 tracks, 45's and using a tape recorder to make mix tapes but can also use an iPhone, use DVR, cut thr cord, print wireless, connect bluetooth to anything and use social media with ease.

their view might be just the opposite, they may think it's pathetic to be addicted to all social media gadgetry to the point where you are so distracted that the world is passing you by

One thing that I'd be willing to bet that most of them understand is that the world was a Hell of a lot better place when they were growing up than it is now.

Don't feel sorry for them. They got to see a world that a lot of younger people today would gladly live in, if they knew what they had missed.

My mom will not use stuff like Venmo or Zelle.

Doesn’t matter how simple i show it works, she said she doesn’t like her information being sent over the internet.

Can they not afford it? If they can afford to add internet, why don't you just set it up for them? Cable is expensive.

I don’t know man, it’s not a bad thing to abstain from participating in this LGBTQBLM+ clown world. I’m actually sad I missed the Sinatra era where everyone wasn’t a fat slob in workout gear barking about politics. Where women took care of the home and their husband with pride. I despise Amazon’s Alexa, the politicization of sports and life etc.

They probably could afford it if they got rid of DirecTV but this is where the stubbornness of that generation comes in. It's probably more of them not willing to adapt. He's used to things being a certain way and that's that!

Pretty sure the games will still be on cable tv. If not WWL 870 AM always broadcast them.

As much as your dad loves the Saints and Pelicans, they are probably far from what he loves the most in life.
