Houstonians, where to live with young family?

So looking like I am having to move to Houston. Have a 3yr old and another on the way, the office is right on the west side of 8 and Briar Forrest area.
I am not a huge fan of the commute but thinking possible Tomball, Spring area, East Katy, or close to the office in the Briar Forrest or Energy Corridor area.
A little flexible on where we will live because this is a 2 yr and reevaluate plan, Houston is not the ideal area I want to live long term.
TIA

We lived in Cane Island (Katy) for a couple of years and loved it. Quick interstate access.

We lived in Bridgeland (Cypress) for several years always liked the area and the neighborhood is as good as you get in a city.

I lived in the area. Katy is generally very good.

wife works in briar forest, we live in between katy and richmond in the area around Westpark and 99, my kids are in college
it is ideal for commute (westpark tollway)
schools south of Westpark are ok (FBISD) Grand Mission area
schools north of westpark are excellent (KISD) Cinco ranch
prop taxes in KISD are higher than FBISD
amenities are all the same
Cinco is more white people neighbors
grand mission is more Africans, Indians and Asians
cinco you will get to know your neighbors, grand mission you wont
if you are two years and re-evaluate then rent, houses are sky high here
for a briar forest commute, anything housing wise north of I-10 means using I-10 to commute into Houston and back, frick THAT NOISE
cypress means 290, frick THAT TOO
Spring, Tomball to Briar Forest? frick THAT TOO
I worked with a Brit in Westchase, his wife loved the woodlands. so he drove the woodlands to westchase/briar forest everyday. frick THAT
my wife has a 25 min drive to briar forest/westchase on the westpark

I worked at Augusta/San Felipe area with a lady that lived in the woodlands. I thought she was nuts.

Anything along 99 south of I-10 would be good.
2 years? I'd be worried about buying. Who knows what the market is about to do.

I have kids near same age group. We decided on oak forest. Quality public elementary school and it was in the middle of everything we wanted. Family oriented but it’s not the suburbs of course.

The Woodlands really is that good. But, what the OP has described seems to negate a lot of the benefits.
I’d think the Cinco Ranch area would be very good for the family along with what supa said.

You probably want to look into the Cinco Ranch area. It’s in Katy. It’s South of I-10 and spans across 99 with older Cinco East of 99 and newer Cinco west of 99.
Katy is a very nice area. It’s split into 4 quadrants with I-10 running East/west and 99 going north/south. People generally avoid the northeast quadrant as it’s not as nice as the rest. Southeast quadrant is nice but a little older, and southwest quadrant is nice and newer. Northwest quadrant is where the actual city of Katy is mostly located. Cane Island is a pretty nice area in the northwest quadrant.

Magnolia or Tomball. Both areas are great for families. Great parks, good food variety, always something to do on weekends. A commute into the city on 249 is significantly more pleasant than a commute into the city on 45.
The east side of Magnolia is ideal because you can enjoy everything in the Woodlands without having to live in the Woodlands. I mean parks, restaurants, shopping, events etc. plus you’re close to Lake Conroe.

Tomball is a good community.
We really like Magnolia/Conroe. Good people. Not sure if that’s practical with your commute.

I didn’t realize how far briar forest was until now. I take that suggestion back. For this guy’s situation I’d go with Katy or North Cypress 290 and 99 area.
My preference when it comes to the Houstonia sprawl is to try to be on the outer outskirts as much as possible. The only things I will go into the city for are Astros games, Rodeo and work. IMO, Everything else can be done in the burbs.

If you hate let’s go Brandon die hards, stay away from Montgomery County. You’d hate it here.
