Hispanic community doubles in size in Lake Charles after hurricanes

Lake Charles is turning into a tiny Houston. And I don't mean that in a bad way.

LAKE CHARLES - At El Gallo Latin Market, kitchen staples from nearly every Latin American country abound. The small store is packed with culturally-specific ingredients: Salvadoran hard cheese, various types of corn meal, bottled mojo marinade.
Since the 2020 hurricanes and subsequent disasters in 2021, population numbers in the Lake Charles region have dropped significantly. But one demographic’s numbers have exploded: immigrants from Latin America.
In 2020, the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey estimated that there were 2,475 immigrants from Latin America living in Calcasieu Parish. By 2021, that number had nearly doubled to 4,830.
“After the hurricane, they came from lots of places, from Texas, from Baton Rouge,” El Gallo owner Fabiola Mateo said of her growing clientele. “There are a lot more Hispanic clients.”
Most are natives of Mexico and Honduras, Mateo noted, although accents from across the Americas can be heard in and around the city’s growing number of Latin American grocery stores, restaurants and food trucks.

For a time period, the whole population was in the Home Depot parking lot every morning. You can still find a few there every morning today.

Started in 2005 after Rita and has just continued trending.

Same thing happened in Nuevo Orleans after Katrina

Hispanics are generally family oriented and hardworking, at least the first couple generations. They are also pretty based and are disgusted by transgenderism and other nonsense like that.
Once the media and progressive left brainwashes them with entitlement and victimhood mentality that might change.

Lake Charles needed a lot of manpower to rebuild in a hurry.
I hope they bring their recipe books and stick around to open up some restaurants.

They had a huge tent with a stove inside setup along the canal east of HD on Prien.

Are they moving because of the hurricane (I don’t see the correlation) or would the immigrant population have gone up either way? Pretty sure the immigrant population of the whole country is increasing.

Those El Baws are more interested in hanging outside drinking Bud Light Clamato than they are watching the news

Just leave them be and they'll rebuild like gangbusters. Plus, I bet there are some good tex mex holes in the wall that have popped up.

Yeah we had a big boom even before Laura with all the plant jobs and housing construction needed for that. LC is a place where you can make serious money as a laborer so a lot stay for plant-related jobs.

My hometown in rural WI has gone from 99% to 89% white in 20 years.
Vast majority of the change is the influx of Mexicans.
And judging by the last time I was in Wal Mart their population is underreported.
As expected since most are illegals.

The Mexicans are moving in?
No wonder why the blacks in Baton Rouge are so bitter and angry all the time. They hate the Hispanic folks even more than they hate the whites.

There were entire quarters during JBE's tenure where Louisiana would have posted net job losses if not for the plant related expansions in Lake Charles and Baton Rouge.
Lake Charles was a boom town before Laura. It's coming back to that again. The OP is just evidence that the growing is returning and people are rebuilding. And they'll get some new, hard working neighbors (that appreciate good food) as a plus!
Does Lake Charles have a minor league soccer team? Would love to see that too.

Real human beings, looking for legitimate hard work. Ok in my book. I just wish we could make a trade. I propose trading 10 of our “ underserved “ for 1 of their workers.

The Hispanics like to work, that's the problem. They take the jobs black people and whites will not.
Not only do they take them, they show up to work, and give you an honest days effort unlike the others.

Yeah people who think these Hispanic people are going to go Lefty are wrong. These are the baws.
Also, thanks to Russia, LC-based LNG is going to be printing money for YEARS now. This train ain't stopping anytime soon. We're saving the world from Russia one shipment at a time.
