How much (dollar value) do you spend on a high school graduation gift for:

Close friends kid

Neighbor / friend you see a couple of times a year kid

Co worker / acquaintance kid (and frick them for sending me a grad announcement trolling for gifts for a kid I met once at a Christmas party five years ago.)

Family Friends, I received $10-$20

Close Family Friends, I received $20-$50

Family, I received $50-$100

I did receive a few $2-$3 from old great uncles and aunts. Bless their hearts, but it was Chackbay, LA.

Edt: My Dad's Boss gave me $200 and a handwritten letter. Was kind of impressed since I never meant the man at the time.

Going to piggy back off this thread.. sister-in-law's bday is at the end of May. How much should I spend? Didn't see her this entire past year due to COVID (more so them than me because I've been out doing shite the entire time and even got COVID on her bday last year).

Not sure I've ever gotten her anything to be honest. I'm a shitty brother-in-law and uncle atm.

$20. He's going to college, buy the kid a couple beers so he can try to get laid. It's not that big a deal

I'm assuming that it's your brother's wife. If it was your wife's sister, then that would be her problem to deal with.

Assuming they drink, a bottle of wine or 2.

Used to be $100 20 years ago. See what inflation has done over that time and match it up.

Family- $100 and up
Close friend kid- $50 and up
Neighbor kid- $20 and up
Coworker's kid- Probably a token roll of quarters if they are going off to college. Otherwise a nice card is acceptable.

Just depends. REALLY close friend, kid has done some odd jobs/babysitting for you or is always fishing/hunting with you I could see the value exceeding the OT standard of $350.

I got 100 bucks from relatives when I graduated 21 years ago so I give 200 bucks only because shite cost more and inflation.

When I graduated from high school my parents gave me an ink pen. Everyone else forgot they knew me. I moved to LSU a week later.
