I'm trying to decide which state to live in after my stint in Kansas is over.

No family, bachelor, prefer city/condo/highrise life.

WPB-Ft Lauderdale-Hollywood Metro
Phoenix

DC is a distant third.

Phoenix

Phoenix is kind of boring, but 1-2 hours north is awesome.

But seriously I'd go with Phoenix. Just plan on vacations elsewhere in July or August to break from the heat. And learn what a swamp cooler is.

If those are your choices, it really doesn't matter.

Expound.
Have you even been to either? No a 5 hour layover to a bar down the road doesn't count.

Do you have to live in Phoenix proper? Tempe or Scottsdale would both be much better places to live.

You'd get a great deal on a house in any of these areas...

No just close enough to the entertainment but also close to the outdoor rec is suitable

If your choices are Florida Beaches, DC, or Phoenix, the easy choice appears to be Ft. Lauderdale. However, let’s go through pros and cons.

DC Pros: VERY young demos, so lots of people your age to meet. Solid bar scene, decent mass transit, unparalleled museums, tons of great parks and nature activities, tons of restaurants to cater to young folks with money. Lots of really interesting jobs due to all of the government agencies, embassies, and contractors in the region.

DC Cons: hot and humid in summer, cold in winter, VERY high crime, crazy expensive real estate.

Phoenix pros: extremely superficial population that really only cares about how you look and nothing else, extremely clean, low humidity, mild winters, relatively affordable housing, tons of instasluts, great bar scene in Scottsdale, tons of nature activities close by with Sedona, skiing in Flagstaff, and the Grand Canyon all close enough for a day trip.

Cons: crazy hot summers, very spread out, terrible mass transit, unremarkable restaurant scene, unremarkable downtown with few high rises

Florida pros: beaches, great tax environment, mild winters, no burdensome covid regulations
Cons: not a ton else to do besides night clubs and beaches, mediocre restaurant scene, relatively expensive but nowhere near that of DC

Some other cities I would recommend checking out:
Chicago
San Diego
New Orleans (maybe)
Pittsburgh

If DC is on your list, anywhere, go to DC. Enjoy your time there. Stay away from Florida.
