Weight machine rods. They’re older. The cables would go through the holes down to the weight plates. Like so

What last poster said, weight machine. They're steel, nothing valuable, unless of course your weight machine is acting funny.

The holes are only 1/8” diameter. I wouldn’t think the cables would fit

Phish got a song called first tube. Maybe if you eat a bunch of mushrooms and space out to First Tube for a while then you'll figure out what the second tube is for. Link below for research

Can't be that old school, the ones I have are cast iron and date to the 1950's.
