We have a cat that is indoor/outdoor that started out as only outdoor until he trusted us and wanted to come in. If you're on a farm, LSUJML is right ... he'll adapt and be fine outside ... and he'll bring you "presents" if he loves you.
Got a pic?? I love cats. But I can't take another one.

I know a guy you can call who will help with your problem for $20.00.

Just open the door and let it out. Cats can survive just fine on their own.

This is more fricked up than you realize.

cats are pretty cool. I wouldn't want one either unless it was killing off the rats in my house but since your wife brought it home you might as well get it aquainted with the dog and keep it

I know enough about most animals to know that if we turned it loose from day 1, it would try to go find it's previous home. Hence trapping it for a few days to get it comfortable.
I'm trying to d this cat a solid and give it a good life. You guys act like if a cat isn't inside the house, it's animal cruelty. You must all live in subdivisions.
I have a pic I am just not sure how t upload pic anymore.

I mean leaving out the fact you live on a farm is a pretty big detail imo
I would think most of us live in neighborhoods & thought of a cat trapped in a carport storage room / garage
Postimage is the easiest site to post pics

Guy I have no problem with outdoor or indoor cats ... ours sits by the door when he wants to go out and makes it known when he wants to come in.
The only reason we have a litter box is he has kidney issues and he had surgery (it was that or die) and now we have to make sure that he pees .. can't do that if we have no litter box. If he doesn't for a day we have to bring him in.
All of that said, yes, they do need to get to know their area -- we moved with this same cat Im speaking of from one home to another ... literally a football field away. We kept him in the house, ZERO outside for 2 or 3 weeks and then he'd go out but he'd go BACK to the other house and I'd have to go get him and haul his arse home. I can't remember how long it took for him to not "get lost" but he doesn't really roam.
Good luck with the cat .. maybe the dog and cat will do ok together or at the very least be "respectful" of each others terriroty.

Cats can be a very cool pet. We had one for 5 years. He was awesome. He was tireless hunter living inside and out. Our neighbors were big bird lovers. He left bird heads on their dog mat. (He did that for no one else). My dad hates cats. This peckerwood would jump in his lap every time he visited. (He did that to no one else ever)
That said, I ain't looking for another one. (Nor dog for that matter)

A cat walked up and rubbed on me while I was outside working.
I gave him some food and was going to keep him outside.
That day I was washing my house and had the screens off. When I got up to pee during the night I saw a tail flicker out of my nightstand. He was curled up in it snoozing.
When I woke up later he was in the bed sleeping beside me. So now I have an inside outside cat.
He’s black, has one eye and gets all the good food he wants. I named him Lucky.
When I walk outside to feed the chickens at dawn and holler “come on”. My chickens, ducks, rabbits and the cat all come running.

Congratulations. Throw the dog out.
Cats > Dogs.
Cats > Dogs.

I don't think that's what they envisioned when asking for a good home. Give the cat to someone else worth a damn.

its so cute that you think this matters or that your wife cares in the least about your opinions
you can pack your shite and move out or accept that the cat is moving in
