Have you ever been suspended or given a forced leave of absence by your employer?

I'm referring to a career-type job not when you were mowing lawns or driving a truck (unless you drive a truck now then please carry on with your answer).

Had a week furlough last year for the China Virus. Ended up getting the money back at the end of the year though.

Everyone got furloughed for a week, so not sure if that counts.

Someone at my company did. I don't recall the exact reasoning, but it was complete BS. The company and execs later apologized.

I was told to use my vacation time to take a break
I told them if I took a break it would be a permanent one
Turned out I didn’t need a break after all

leave of absence

All this time I've been saying league of absence.

Going to write the correct expression down on the notepad I keep in my chester drawers.

Management over internal controls often have to take 2 consecutive weeks off to make sure they aren't skating the controls.

That would be forced leave by definition.

How long did they suspend you? And what did you do?

I was asked to go home one day….only because I was going on my 15th hour at work

This was after the 2016 flood where our volume literally tripled overnight and no one was prepared.

Once.

Suspended for pissing off a supervisor in another department when I couldn't assist her with problems unrelated to my own job.

HR sided with her.

I didn’t want to take a Wed - Fri & burn vacation time in the middle of a project

Small company, owner health issues, wife came in taking over
When I said I wouldn’t come back she backed down & I finished my project & used my vacation time later in the year to take a fishing trip

Ended up leaving after working there almost 20 years

No, but I was told, by my boss, to take the full 3 mos of short disability when I had rotator cuff surgery cause it was slow. I wound up getting laid off anyway but at least I got paid for 3 mos and was able to find a new job.

I wouldn't mind that as I could plan around it for a good vacation. What I hate at my job is they plan the busiest times for us in early to mid July every year, and I literally can't take off more than a day or two consecutively. You'd have thought I asked for a kidney a couple of years ago when I told them I was going to the beach the week after the 4th. Sorry, but if I have 4 weeks of vacation, and you block off half the month that is prime vacation time, don't be surprised at the turnover you've seen in the department. I might work like crazy before and after to make up for it, but if I've got a place at the beach for free through family that week, I'm going.

Not a mentality just who needs who more. I believe they call it job security or leverage.
