It’s the total opposite of the truth

In 1970, when I was told that we had 20 years before the earth would end of we didn’t recycle- was the science settled?

No.

Lol nice strawman. It was never scientific concensus that the earth would in in 1990 if people didn't recycle.

Debate mods are probably kids who failed science in high school. They know as much about science as singers or basketball players know about world economics.

Both were art majors

The rainforests should be all gone by now along with the polar ice caps. Questioning it would bring about the lovely phrase that “the science is settled.”

Possibly from activists or conservationists.

You shouldn't confuse propaganda with science though. It undermines the actual work done.

This guy:

I think he's the one who actually coined the silly phrase in an attempt to stop any debate or argument on his billion dollar grift.

As a scientist, I feel like I have to give some sort of rebuttal.

While TECHNICALLY, the science is NEVER 100% "Settled", there a a vast number of topics where the evidence is irrefutable. That is, there is no major research going on to refute those topics. In that sense, the science is "settled". A few of those topics are:

Newtonian Physics (The basic laws of motion)
Mendelian genetics
Gravity
Basic electrical theory (Ohm's law, Watt's law, etc)
The laws of Thermodynamics
Germ Theory
Universal gas law (Pv = NRT)
Electromagnetism
Plate tectonics
Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium

and many more (too numerous to list). So while the term "The science is settled" might be political rhetoric these days, there are times when it does apply.

It's the secular version of "just have faith". Take that for what it's worth.

They do something similar with the word 'democracy', which means institutions that are controlled by leftists, rather than the will of the people.

Does OP have a problem with climate change science, or politicians using that science to pass legislation that lines their own/their friends pockets?

Seems to me that he has a problem with a phrase that makes absolutely no sense. The science is, in fact, not settled, but in order to shut down any discussion about it that may go against what they "think", they use that phrase as if it is a fact, which it is not.

Especially since science will never be able to answer questions such as how we got here or why we're here.

School is about teaching kids to obey more than learning. You can't recycle most plastic anyway

So merely existing in the modern world means you trust all science? This is teh argument you're trying to make here?
