Has anyone here had a CT Myelogram?

I have one scheduled for Thursday and, after reading comments to youtube videos about the procedure, I'm slightly uncomfortable if not terrified about getting it done. I looked up some videos to see what was involved in the procedure and virtually every comment says it is the most painful thing they have ever gone through and how horrific an ordeal it was. Terrible pain during the procedure, brain-splitting headaches for weeks after, leakage of cerebrospinal fluid from injection site requiring a blood patch, etc...
I don't have the option of not getting it. I have had terrible, constant, unrelenting pain in my left arm, elbow, forearm and hand for over two months, [and now grinding and popping in my neck] and the spinal surgeon sees either a bone spur, cyst or sequestered/fragmented disc at C6/7 and needs to get a better view to decide whether he goes in from the front or back. [I'm not happy about this surgery either!]
By the way, I will never look at people who get addicted to drugs because of chronic pain the same way ever again. No worries about getting addicted to opiods for me AS THEY DON'T WORK ON THIS PAIN unfortunately. However, if there was something I could take to help with the pain, I would def risk addiction and take it. Until you have extreme pain non-stop 24/7, you really have no idea what this is like.
In any case, has anyone here had a CT Myelogram and can you share your experience with it so I know what to expect Thursday morning.

But also realize YouTube and webmd are going to tell you the worst possible outcome and will also sensationalize everything for views

Had one done after my stroke. They were looking for a brain aneurysm. I don't remember any pain but when the dye is injected, warmth spread from my genitals outward through my body. I thought it was a cool feeling. YMMV

Can you not get a MRI?
Myelograms are usually just for people that cant get MRI though some neurosurgeons want both because old school guys think myelograms are better

Worst part should just be the lidocaine shot. I think they might give you some valium.

Had an IV recently where they added magnesium to it and had this affect where my balls got this warm tingling feeling that then spread throughout body. It was interesting. It was nice.

I had one when I was 15 for prep for double lower lumbar fusion. It's pretty fricking brutal of a procedure. Make sure you keep your head elevated for 24-36 hours after. People that get the headaches don't follow after procedure recommendations.

They are done mostly for prep before major spinal surgery.

They puncture with a about a 12 inch needle and draw spinal fluid out and replace with a dye. Its pretty fricking brutal. You have to stay perfectly still during the procedure. Also you have to keep your head elevated for the next 24-36 hours to keep the dye from flowing into your brain so you won't get headaches that would make you want to kill yourself.

I did have an MRI which showed multiple disc bulges, facet joint hypertrophy and foraminal narrowing, but the radiologist did not see/report the spot that concerns the spine doctor. He showed it to me on the MRI and it was def something, which is why he wants the myelogram to confirm.
And I don't have balls so I don't have that particular bit of fun to look forward to!

I had it done at the neuromedical center in BR. I hate needles. I felt nothing. Super easy. Just a lil burning sensation in legs during the scan.

They punctured at my tailbone and went up about 6-7 inches up my spine. I was 15 and weighed 165lbs. I had a double fusion at L4-L5 to tailbone.

Can’t speak for a Myelogram but I did have a lumbar puncture a couple weeks ago. Wasn’t even close to being as bad as I had always heard it was.
Make sure you drink plenty of water ahead of time, not just the day of. I’d start increasing water intake today. As long as you take it easy afterwards the headaches aren’t bad. As someone else mentioned, the worst part was probably the lidocaine.

I had one done at neuromedical back in 2014. I do not think much has changed in eight years. The headaches are caused by the dye they inject in your back and then tilt your body and head down. This allows the dye to travel down your spine towards your head using gravity. They try to hold your head up when you are in this position to try and minimize the amount of dye that makes it to your brain. My doctor told me that is what causes the headaches. I agree that it’s definitely the worst pain I have ever had but it gave my doctor a better view of what what he was going to see when he gets in there. I ended up having rods installed between C3 - C7. They also installed some cage looking thing in the front of my neck that they connected the rods to. It was done in two surgeries. The first surgery they installed the cage and then two weeks later they installed the rods on the back side of my neck. I didn’t have a choice on whether I would have the surgery or not. I couldn’t feel anything in my hands and I worked with my hands everyday for my job. I couldn’t even button up a shirt without help. What ever they tell you to do after the procedure, make sure you do it. The pain was only temporary while they were doing the Xray part of the scan. The headaches come later. You can minimize the headaches by following the directions they give you. I only had a mild headache after mine. Good luck

You had a CT Angiogram. Different test.

They are no big deal. Same procedure as a lumbar puncture and nearly same as an epidural. Your provider has probably performed 100s if not 1000s of these.
