Hammond woman facing $18 million bond, accused of fraudulent Doordash orders

According to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, 31-year-old Maili Morris was booked into the parish jail on 816 criminal counts, including 136 counts each of Identity theft, bank fraud, computer fraud, felony theft, access device fraud, and exploitation of the infirmed.

Chief Jimmy Travis said Morris was arrested on Feb. 16, following a lengthy investigation of financial crimes against the elderly. Morris is accused of ordering $12,000 worth of food and items from Hammond locations between Nov. 2022 and Jan. 2023.

$22,500 bond per charge?

She made 136 orders & is being charged with 6 crimes on each order. Seems a bit much.

Probably making an example out of her, for whatever reason, and charging the max bond for each of the 800+ charges.

They are clearly making an example out of her because the Chief Deputy is running for Sheriff. Trying to make a name for himself.

These charges won't stick in court. Murderers and rapists get lesser bonds.
