This is a big WTF move.
Is GM trying to get into the on-board vehicle software game themselves?

If I’m deciding on cars and one forces me into a new tech with a potential fee..the choice will be influenced by not adding another app/tech/fee

Useless bit of trivia, Ferrari charges over $4k for the optional CarPlay. You can get an $18k Kia Rio with CarPlay and Android Auto.

My 19 Ram does not have bluetooth but I think the newer models do. The cord gets on my nerves but at least it keeps my phone charged too.

They want monthly subscription revenue and revenue sharing for any apps the driver chooses to use.
I have a new Silverado. Android software but allows CarPlay. Already has google maps which allows use of the whole screen. After a certain about of time (maybe 2 or 3 months) the Gmaps cuts out and asks you to pay for a plan. No more Gmaps.
I can still use Gmaps or Waze or whatever through CarPlay.
I am guessing in the near future, if you want to use CarPlay, you’ll be paying monthly for the plug in. Hopefully they don’t try to do this retroactively.

Man I’ve been driving GM product for years, but this type of move along with their ugly new designs, shitty transmissions, and aggravating flex fuel feature is about to make me lose my brand loyalty.

Yup. These manufacturers are trying to control our data to sell, but they don't realize just how valuable Carplay is to consumers. Their shitty onboard programs are worthless. Carplay is an absolute must, and I hope these frickers fail miserably.
