Giant muffler exhaust tips

Was in traffic this morning and saw a pickup truck with the largest exhaust tip I think I’ve ever seen. Nearly the size of a dinner plate.
No judgement for any baws here that have them, but is there a benefit? Or is it just a variation of having truck nuts?

My guess is it's just for ensuring there's enough open area for the exhaust to escape.

i was sitting at a red light this morning when a charger two lanes over came rolling through and made his car backfire i guess. made a loud arse noise that scared the absolute shite out of me. its the second or third time in the last month that i've noticed cars doing this. i just dont understand the appeal to it and think its absolutely stupid.

Kind of like "Fish Tails" on motorcycle exhaust pipes. I've always found them to be too over the top for me to ever put on the ends of my pipes.
