The mandate was taken down yesterday. This bankruptcy doesn’t have much of anything to do with them being woke. All theaters are suffering.

This may not end well if the other movie theaters in Texas that serve alcohol don't enforce mask policies. People make choices with their money.
They’re not going to AMC and buying a $15 Bud Light with sticky smelly seating over the Alamo Drafthouse.

This is fine. If a business chooses to force you to wear a mask its their choice
Govt forced mandates were bullshite
Exactly. Everyone should take the appropriate steps they feel to protect themselves.
If a business wants to impose restrictions, that's there prerogative.

Here's the key word here. It's what it's all about. The illusion of safety. Like duck and cover.

Deciding to have stricter rules at your business isn’t “going against orders”.

I have never been to Alamo Drafthouse. I did not realize it was nicer than any other theater that sold alcohol like Movie Tavern or Star Cinema Grill.

they're pretty nice, decent menu and a nice bar, their schtick is older, or lesser known first run or almost first run flicks

I for sure would if Alamo had people walking the aisles to enforce. frick sitting for 2-2 1/2 hours with a mask on to watch a movie. If it’s treated like things are here in BR, they may still get my money. Mask mandate or not I take that shite off when I get to my seat.

I can promise you the decision to go into Ch 11 was made before Abbott's announcement yesterday.
They are going into Ch 11 because the theater industry has been absolutely destroyed by the shutdowns. They have new owners lined up, and the new owners want to shed some debt.
That's all this is.

MarQ movie theater is still closed. They were going to do a soft opening for Superwoman or whatever that movie was called, but scrapped it.
They're losing their shorts bigly.

Sounds like another case of "go broke, get woke" actually. They are going out of business and no one is going there, so they want to attract some woke Austin dipshits to score a few bucks on their way out.

A good number, if not the majority, of restaurants, breweries, groceries, and other businesses had similar announcements yesterday about continuing with their mask policies. It seems like wanting customers to feel safe is the prevailing sentiment right now. We'll see if that changes as more people get vaccinated and people calm down a bit.
If you are deathly afraid of contracting COVID, are you really going out to an eatery or bar anyway? Are people really stupid enough to believe that a virus cannot get you while you are laughing it up, unmasked at a table, but if you get up to go to the bathroom you better mask-up because that is when the virus attacks?
Why would you go to a movie theater that has built its model on eating and drinking if you have to wear a mask?

take a political stance against the governors orders
A private business chose to continue requiring masks. That's how this is supposed to work.
A business makes a decision for their workers and customers and we get to decide if we go there. It's not a "political stance against the governor's orders."

They are pretty specific in their statement about why they’re doing this.
What politician do you think they’re talking about?

This is what should have been happening the entire time, if a business wants to enforce their own covid protocols then go for it.
