I understand what you're saying and partially agree with you. There have to be tools and resources for the oilfield workers to use and learn how to properly manage their money.

But in the end, a lot of these guys are the horse you're leading to water. They'll see it, but they won't drink.

I live in Katy. Will I have Section 8 next door soon? Can HOA protect against that?

I've never ever been associated with a company that babysits it's EE's on how to save and protect their 100K salaries.

Are you serious about the idea some Derrick hand should have a financial tutor supplied by their company?

holy fricking shite! uneducated people are capable of learning it but educated people aren't?

The point I'm trying to make is that going to college doesn't necessarily mean you're more intelligent than the "oilfield trash" or that you're more capable than the people working in the field. My relief and I only have a high school education. We're the supervisors. The guys working under us all have degrees and are under a huge pile of debt due to student loans.

I think getting a $60,000-$70,000 starting salary out of high school that becomes a $150,000 - $200,000 salary within 10 years without student loan debts is a pretty smart idea, wouldn't you?

So does my yard man, but he doesn't deserve $120K a year either.
Yeah well, your yard man sleeps at home every night, and I bet his hourly rate is about what many of these guys make, if not more. And I've never seen anyone cut grass in the rain fricknuts.

All of the oilfield workers being out of work is going to crush connected area business/development/growth/etc. Not to mention the amount of crime that will go up.

HOLY shite! Let me get this straight. I should pay more for gas to support your lifestyle OR you are going to drive me out of business AND rob and kill me?

I think that is how ISIS works too. Just saying...

Duh, I'm one of them, but I have to get outside and do actual work occasionally. I'm talking about the desk jockeys not in the O&G industry who think the people in it are overpaid.

I'm not angry bro, I just think it's moronic for people who've never stepped foot on a rig to say we're overpaid.

Welders and fitters can make good money and live at home. Part of the reason for high pay for rig workers is the work schedule...not that they can't train just about anyone to do the work.

True. Being away from home really sucks sometimes, especially holidays.

Rig workers weren't overpaid, they were paid what the market at the time dictated. Oil isn't underpriced, it's priced at what the current market dictates.

Everyone needs to quit with all the "haha"s at oil workers and "boohoo"s from oil workers. It's a boom and bust industry, everyone knew it, the boom was good now the bust sucks, but no point arguing against the market.

Yeah there's foreclosures in North Dakota, and parts of Texas and Louisiana, but that is a drop in the bucket compared to the amount of money saved by the rest of the country on cheaper transportation and shipping costs.

EE doesn't only stand for what you think it does. EE simply means Employee in the "real" world

yeah, personally I hate how these discussions on oil prices and the impact on the economy always devolve into discussions about the "old field" baw and the tons of LSU scholars around here with their college degrees

I understand it, as this is a college message board and there are plenty of students and college graduates here who want to defend their choices....BUT the discussion on oil and gas and the greater implications on the economy and the trickle down effect are much more important than "what is oil field baw going to do?"
