When deputies called Ruffin’s husband to inform him about the altercation and arrest, he “became irate” and said he would not allow his wife and son to speak with investigators, according to the release.

Ruffin was booked into a local jail later that day on charges of battery and child abuse. Her son was expected to be charged with battery in juvenile court.

“There is zero excuse for an adult, especially a parent, to be physically involved in a juvenile dispute,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement. “Kids need to have leadership from their parents and taught how to handle disputes properly. I doubt she will receive a mother of the year award.”
