Firestone Tires...I’m gonna need new tires in the next 6 months

I’ve had pretty good luck with Firestone overall for maintenance and I get them to rotate and balance my tires at no added cost every time based on my existing tires and lifetime alignment with them.

I’m gonna need new tires in the next 6 months probably. I was surprised that Costco was significantly more expensive than what Firestone offers. I don’t live anywhere where it snows so that’s not an issue.

Firestone looks like they have a standard no frills tire with a 65k mile warranty. They also have even cheaper tires it looks like under the brand Primewell. Are these things just complete pieces of shite? I really don’t want to overspend on tires because I really don’t do anything special other than drive around town and on the occasional out of town trip every month or two with my car. I also admit I am ignorant in knowing what to look for specifically in terms of features to make sure I’m actually paying for something I may need.

I have over 150k miles on Primewell tires between two vehicles. No complaints at all. Wouldn't put them on a sports car or anything. But for everyday driving, they've been perfect.

They last as long as they claim, they aren't loud, and they've performed as expected. Can't ask for much more IMO

You mean primewell? Or did they change their name? I guess I’m trying to make sure they actually do last as long as as I need them too or that the warranty is actually worth a shite. I’ve only owned a car for 3 years so so far I haven’t had to deal with any wholesale tire changes and how maybe spending a little more to make sure I have certain features may go a long way. I honestly have no idea how a tire warranty even works.

Related question....

...what all season tire has the best snow and winter traction? Debating on buying winter tires for an all wheel drive car in Chicago, or buying new all season tires.

The current tires on the car are all season and are getting worn out. They did okay in what was a mild winter last year.

Firestone recovered from that horrible quality and bad press to make some quality tires for a cheap price.

Meanwhile Goodyear out here competing with Drew Brees to be more cucky.

Go with Firestone, Michelin if you got the dough but you get more quality and miles, or Hankook or Pirelli.

Not sure I would trust any answers regarding snow tires on an LSU board.

Well science tells us that with global warming you can't expect that again. It will either be really bad or really warm or somewhere right in the middle. Thanks capitalism.

Hankook

Had a set of these on my Edge Sport. Got horrible life out of two sets of them. Not sure if its just something with that specific tire (Ventus Noble S1), but I couldn't get 15k miles out of a set Gave up after the second set.

I've got 32k on my Hankook tires and they have a decent amount of tread left. I might get 40-45k out of them.

I've had Coopers and Uniroyal and both are reasonable, wear well and ride fine in crappy weather.

I replaced the factory Continental junk tires with Michelin tires on an Altima. WOW! Very low noise, good tread life, and (believe it or not) better ride quality. It really made that car go from a rough go kart feel to feeling like a much larger car.

Also, and I'll probably get some negative replies, but Cooper Discovery have been the worst tires I've ever put on a vehicle. Very fast treadwear, and three of them developed the "wop, wop, wop" noise within the first year.

If you like the Firestone tire, why would you change?

no frills tire with a 65k mile warranty

If you want a laugh, actually read the warranty. My truck came with some continentals, completely shot at 25k, warranty to 50k. IF I had gone through with all of the paperwork AND they approved everything AND replaced them with new contintals, I was going to get a check for like $28 after everything was prorated down.

Firestone is poo poo. Go with either Michelin or Goodyear.

This does not seem correct. The tire has a 65000 mile treadwear rating. Any replacement is prorated based on wear and proper useage. They don't just warranty tires for a set number of miles.

Because they seem to sell dozens of types of tires. I really couldn’t tell you why one was better than the other. I need some educating on why I may need to pay more. Otherwise I’d just get the cheapest thing they offer.

What tire you should purchase depends on several factors. Load rating and speed (performance) rating are two very important factors. You don't put H speed rated tires on a Porsche 911 nor do you put improperly load rated tires on a heavy vehicle.
