They are basically investigating Latoya by default from what I gather.

At least two New Orleans area stores have received subpoenas from a federal grand jury and been questioned by FBI agents about purchases made by Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s image consultant, according to representatives of the businesses.

Laura Rodrigue, an attorney for Ballin’s boutique – where the consultant, Tanya Haynes, often shopped for outfits for the mayor – said the owners are cooperating with the federal investigation.

quote:

A sales manager at BC Kitchen and Bath in Metairie said Thursday that a grand jury subpoena was served Sept. 13 at her store, for a $17,000 kitchen remodel at Haynes’ home. While the Ballin’s subpoena appears to relate to Haynes’ work for Cantrell, there is no obvious link between the BC Kitchen and Bath subpoena and the mayor.

The subpoena for BC Kitchen & Bath asked the company to send the records to FBI agent Todd Goodson by Sept. 30. The government sought “any accounts associated with” Haynes or her husband, Vernon Haynes, and specified records of a $2,000 purchase on Nov. 7, 2020. The store manager said an FBI agent told her that amount was charged to a credit card that did not belong to Haynes.

quote:

But in an interview Thursday, he said such expenditures are proper under state law only if they’re truly spent on consulting – not clothing. He noted a few limited exceptions to that rule: for instance, people who hold elected positions that might require them to wear a uniform, such as an elected police chief, might be able to tap their campaign funds.

Kathleen Allen, the Ethics Board’s administrator, provided several written opinions issued by the board on the same question over the years. In one 1992 opinion, the board’s then-lawyer wrote that “ordinary clothing expenses may not appropriately be paid using campaign funds.”

Essentially she was funneling Campaign money to this consultant to the tune of $6,000.00 per month. The consultant was using funds on all kinds of things, including clothes for the mayor and possibly paying half in cash and half on credit cards to conceal the true amount of purchases. You can't use these type of funds on clothing for the politician

Also, L-O-fricking-L to all the idiots on here who said she'd never be investigated.

How can someone who gives no fricks also retain an image consultant? Well, I guess I know. The I.C. is helping her craft the image that she gives no fricks.

“If a politician is using campaign funds of a sufficient amount that it meaningfully enriches themselves or their families, and the expenses have nothing to do with the holding of office – that’s the sort of thing that would attract the attention of federal law enforcement,” said Matt Chester, a defense lawyer who was on the team that prosecuted former Mayor Ray Nagin.

Matt Coman, the lead prosecutor in the Nagin case and now a defense lawyer, said the use of cash in high-dollar transactions would be a “red flag” for authorities.

A former Orleans Parish prosecutor, Rodrigue, the Ballin's attorney, helped launch Bayou Mama Bears, a political organization that has been vocal in criticizing Cantrell over crime and masking requirements. Her representation of the boutique, however, dates from at least 2018, she said.

“The subpoenas were issued prior to any announcement of a recall effort,” Rodrigue said.

Looking forward to when one of her family members gets involved so I can hear her at a press conference say "this is relative to a relative"

Dear 8-pound, 6-ounce, newborn infant Jesus. Don't even know a word yet, but still omnipotent...please please let Teedy get indicted. That would be phenomenal.

How long before someone at the advocate puts 2 and 2 together and discovers the last two black New Orleans mayors got thrown in jail and but Mitch Landrieu didn’t.

My prediction --

The stupid b!tch who was paid $175k to make LaToya look like a f*cking clown didn't claim any of that money as income because that money was actually used to buy LaToya's wardrobe.

The IRS and DOJ will go after the "image consultant"/personal shopper and she'll roll on LaToya and say that it was all LaToya's idea and scheme and they'll bring tax, money laundering, and illegal campaign finance charges against da Kween of New Or-lee-uns.

Then, there's a 50/50 chance of a New Orleans jury convicting da Kween. Okay, make that 20/80 against a conviction.

Just look at Jason Williams -- he and his white partner were involved in the same tax fraud schemes, using the same CPA who testified against both of them and YET, an Orleans parish (FEDERAL) jury convicted the white partner and Jason Williams got off scot-free. If it had been an Orleans Parish (state court) jury, the white woman would have been sentenced to death and Jason Williams would have been awarded $100 quadrillion in respirations.
