I was just watching a recent Dateline episode where a woman who was a suspect went missing. Dog "the Bounty Hunter" was "called in" to help find her.
They said that his fee is $10,000 just to show up. Whoever "calls him in" signs a contract and, I believe, pays the money up front. So, it is a little different than your average "bounty hunter" in that he is already guaranteed that $10k and has to be paid before helping. Any other rewards upon locating or capturing the person are just gravy.
In light of his involvement in this case, I thought this was an interesting bit of info.

but who would be paying him in this case? aren't bounty hunters paid by bail bondsmen when a suspect skips? did anyone actually "call him in" here?

My guess would be Gabby's parents or someone on their behalf. I'm sure there is no shortage of people willing to help them.
Bounty hunter is a catch all term, particularly when it comes to cases like this and the one Dateline was covering. Dog getting paid up front is really no different than any other reality tv star getting paid to make an appearance.
ETA: In the case of the Dateline episode, the missing woman's daughter paid the fee. Her mom was wanted in connection to the murder of her father.

I don't think we would know that for sure. All I know is that Dog doesn't usually show up for free, even if there is a possible reward for locating someone.

the publicity alone could have been enough reason for him...supposedly, he was shopping a new tv show...who knows, maybe he had no ulterior motive...and if by some chance he does end up finding this guy, good for him!

All we know for sure is what Dog said. He said he was in FL on his honeymoon, saw this and thought he could help. (He thought he could get some footage for a reality show.)
His modus operandi is to have the parents, BF, GF, etc, tell him where the fugitive is. The parents would not talk to him, and had him trespassed from their property.

He probably does it more like this in his latter years to capitalize off of his name but he’s done it the traditional way too.

What does ect mean?
Electro-convulsive therapy. Known in the vernacular as “shock therapy”. Used to treat severe, treatment-resistant depression. Sounds much scarier than it truly is.

Checked back for any updates & here we are talking about et cetera & electro-convulsive therapy.
Y'all read the story about the Laundrie "lookalike" staying at a resort on the Appalachian trail that got woken up by US Marshalls busting down the door & pointing guns at him?!
US Marshalls advised him to shave his beard & then gave him a free night stay & free breakfast buffet at the lodge.

Semantics. If he goes the rest of his life and dies, never having been caught, he can be said to have gotten away with it. Until then, it's "not yet."
He may be dead already, in which case he's already gotten away with it, pending confirmation.

Ok Laudrie is clearly being sheltered by somebody. But who would get into that?

Family member or friend? If you have a couple acres in the country it’s pretty damn easy to hide someone. Buy them groceries and let them screw around on the land. Very very easy when there aren’t very many eye balls around.
The parents faces are very unknown. I don’t know what they look like. It would be very easy for them to have rented him a trailer in the country on 2 acres and no one would every know.

I’m sure FBI has a long list of anyone that’s ever been in contact with him.
