Etymology of the word “Silly”(random)

Silly originally meant blessed or blessing
Over time, it came to mean the word innocent because the blessed were innocent in the eyes of the Lord.
Then, since who was more blessed than children,it became to me a childlike.
Since children are lacking in ability, silly also canoe to pick up connotations of being incompetent.
And then we get to the word we have today. Silly is innocent foolishness.

What's the etymology of entomology?

I've got a better one to save this thread.
"It is cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey"
"It is cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey"
quote:
Comes from the practice of putting iron cannon balls on a dimpled brass plate, nicknamed a monkey, on the deck of a war-ship. When very cold the brass contracted sufficiently to cause the iron balls to fall out.

That is an interesting origin. But I'm not sure etymology applies to phrases.

It doesn't, but it is an origin story. To be fair, I didn't say etymology (and neither did OP )
