Who do you think is paying for all of the contractors needed to restore power?
This is nothing new and how every single power company operates. Sometimes the company borrows money to pay for storm costs and puts the debt payment on your bill.
To put the power utility business model simply: all costs required to bring power to a jurisdiction + an approved profit margin..:divide all that by kW hours and you get charged on your usage.
Rate filings are public info.

I am with Slemco, and have never had an issue with them. They sent a guy out within 30 minutes of my call around midnight one time to replace a blown fuse up on the transformer.
I get an email within 10 minutes of power going out and coming back on. That time I was the only person without power and still got the email... Their system is the tits of systems.

Holy shite imagine being charged by the utility to fix their own electrical grid
Every single one of them does this. Regulated entities are just more transparent about it
The ratepayers pay for the infrastructure, it’s not hard to understand, and it’s really not any different than how other companies operate.

One thing to remember. Any charges that are passed on to the customer in Louisiana has to be approved by the Public Service Commission. The commission is there to protect both the customer AND the power company.

Yeah, I think it was within the last year or two IIRC.
It's only $XX/month. You think the power company that seems to let trees grow up around their lines the majority of the time and waits forever to replace leaning/damaged poles should be responsible for the cost of the damage from a storm?

I stand corrected then. I guess a better question would be then "How is this legal?"
Seriously? Do your insurance premiums rise after a storm? No difference with a utility recouping costs.
Since Entergy Arkansas is a subsidiary of Entergy Corp, Arkansas customers got stuck, 10-15 years ago, subsidizing Louisiana customers for the high cost of natural gas at the time.

Well, that's certainly not true. The cheapest possible rate is zero.

Coast Electric did this after Katrina. $3 a month for 5 years.
Probably cheaper than trying to insure the infrastructure.

Its called a storm rider and it always at the bottom of your bill. Entergy is self insured, this is how they make up their losses from the storm. Its always been like this at every utility in the country.
Also, That's your elected Public Service Commissioner making that statement. Entergy, as a regulated monopoly, cannot make any rate changes without their approval.
