I was around Canal/Carrollton last night and all I can say is I am lucky to be alive. I saw multiple roving packs of "youths" with extended-magazine Glocks sticking out of their pockets. This is the first time I have been genuinely afraid walking around NOLA. Endymion needs to move to an uptown route like everyone else; I felt much safer on Napoleon. Maybe bring back stop and frisk?

This is a softball for a 6 page thread about the Second Amendment and reasonable regulation. I’m just glad I saw it early so I would know what thread not to look at again.

Hey man we’re not really youths we’re all in our 30s. What’s wrong with enjoying an ipa with your friends while carrying a Glock with a banana clip. Scared old white men smdh

This is not possible. New Orleans has a law preventing you from carrying a firearm on a parade route.

I thought all the people on here supported open carry laws?

Oh, that is not what the law says.

The law says it is illegal to carry a firearm that you use in the commission of a violent crime. It is poorly written and intentionally confusing. It is written that way because they can't restrict carrying a firearm any more than what the Louisiana constitution allows so they wrote this confusing, meaningless law that does nothing but give NOPD an opportunity to lie about what is legal or not.

Apparently only for white people in the suburbs and rural areas.

Well guess I was breaking the law last night.

I hated yesterday. It’s been years since we went to the parade, and my kids wanted to go. Went with a large group. Few things.
- Weed. Weed everywhere. I swear I smelled it just about everywhere I was and on just about everyone that I passed. Had to move my daughter at one point because there was a group of kids just full on smoking a joint in the middle of the street.

- We had a large group on the neutral ground. By dark, a group of people just started occupying our space. First it was a couple, then it got to the point where I was having to push people out of the way so my daughter could get close enough to get beads. Imagine being a grown arse woman and taking $1 plastic beads from an eleven year old kid. fricking people.

It was a nice day and we had a good time with the group pre parade. But once things started I was pretty much done.

Did you have a problem with all the open drinking of alcohol? I bet the drunk people caused more of a spectacle than the high ones.

Last time I went to Endymion was 2002, and went several times in the 90’s, and people crowded your space then once the parade started rolling through. So I don’t think that’s a new phenomenon.

It's gotten out of control. Even at Tucks I caught some thing and a woman ran up out of nowhere and violently attacked me trying to snatch it. I have never seen such childish behavior from adults. You are right about the marijuana, it was disgusting. What needs to happen is all of the respectable parades should just start going on Veterans.

On another note, as the night wore on, I was increasingly worried about getting in an Astroworld-type situation, because I could barely even move.

We were at Carrolton and Canal ish and it was fine. I even remarked to myself and a few others how chill it was and how you can have so many people together at one time with no issues.

So you are saying the overstaffed NOPD was able to have eyes and ears everywhere to ensure everyone a safe mardi gras?

That's my biggest issue. I've always liked going to New Orleans, usually go 3 or 4 times a year. Usually to catch at least one concert, go to the Louisiana Derby, go to a Pelicans game, every few years a Saints game. Then in the Summer months, make a trip to Harrah's for the hell of it, but its not a secret the NOPD doesn't have the manpower it did.... 4-5 years ago. Which is why you got mother frickers walking around not giving a frick about whether police will see them strapped knowing they don't even look old enough to carry.

Teenagers are already fricking idiots. You get those fricks out there, one of them might think someone on a float disrespected them because they were hit with a bead, pull out and start shooting at them. And the sad thing is, what I just said really doesn't sound like something "unlikely" or exaggerated. A story like that would not surprise me at all.

Serious question, is it just me or does it seem like since after the pandemic, just in general, people just forgot how to act in public? I went to something a few weekends ago that had a big attendance and then several other things where things just felt "on edge". Like more people have this "I'll do, say, yell, scream, etc whatever I want and if someone got a problem with it I dare you to say something" attitude.
