What are the laws on this? From what I read it seems that employers are only required to tell employees who sit within 6 feet of the individual.

Covid notification laws? I don’t imagine specifics have been passed there.

Obviously they can’t mention by name, but are they not required to tell anyone that someone tested positive?

Probably no law that they have to inform, but they suck if they don’t.

You don’t have to say who had it. Let HR handle it and just inform people that work near or had contact with an individual to be aware.

No, they are not.

And a good argument could be made that the employer could get in trouble for even sharing the information without a name.

May be right, would you want to be informed?

Your employer withholding information that could negatively affect the health, welfare, well-being, and the lives of you and your family now forces you to reassess the value you had previously placed on his life.

Good luck, Baw.

The response will be interesting.

Posters went crazy on someone that fired an employee for not telling.

Are you?

Telling your employees that a person did in fact test positive, has nothing to do with HIPPA.

Just a moral obligation.

And doing the right thing could cause them some shite, so pieces of shits are doing what pieces of shits do.

They did it right by my office, they closed the building, informed everyone who worked there that x number of people tested positive and the last days they were in the building. Brought in cleaning teams and did not allow anyone else in the building.

Agreed, I deserved to know. I’m ok with it and not freaking out but still feel slighted I wasn’t made aware of the situation.

Check the ryan white act. Seems like gubment added the Shanghai shivers to the ryan white act, which is for AIDS. I think that they might have to tell folks probably that have come in contact with the person.

Your employer is having the equivalent of a chickenpox party to get all of you past this, so you’ll get back to work.

That is absolutely protected medical information under HIPAA. Generally speaking, it can only be shared by your employer on a strict need to know basis. For example, your immediate manager may only be told you’re on a leave of absence but not provided details why.

If you tested positive for coronavirus would you really want that info shared with your coworkers?

My employer made upper management of each division call all of their employees that there was a positive case and their response to it.

They offered zero identifying info though, even as broad as work shift or department.

They obviously can't say the name but it's common for employers to notify people that had close recent contact with someone who tested positive. Obviously not giving them the name but it's pretty easy for the person to figure out.
