Jeez, has no one here had family with Covid? I know so many people sick from the virus. It's not surprising.

The nursing shortage is real

It was real before COVID in 2017, 2018, 2019, etc.

Then the hospital administrators decided to lay off many in 2020 when profits were going down due to self imposed moratoriums on voluntary surgical procedures.

Then just recently hospital administrators decided to fire some nurses that wouldn't get vaccinated.

Now hospital administrators and public health agencies are saying COVID is causing all these hospital issues....I say bullshite.

Per The Advocate, Edwards isn’t updating any mandates until 9/1. O’Neal (Dr. Death) and some other doctor broad from Tulane are advising him to lock down again.

They’ve had 17 months to figure this shite out and still haven’t. And yet many people want more government in their lives. It’s insane.

It is when there are 3000 people in the hospital, and all the ICU beds are full all across the south.

My business is hospital throughput. My company collects this data for HHS. This statement is either woeful ignorance or an outright lie. This is absolutely not true... ICU's stay busy, and can be full a lot of the time on a normal day, but NOT simply because of Covid. Please stop the fear porn. Hospital admits are falling across the South.

I would be amazed if any of these hospitals fired unvaccinated nurses, particularly ICU nurses, while having anything near the current number of hospitalizations.

Then I would suggest that you prepare to he amazed. Besides, the nurses that have any chance to bail are doing so. There are hospitals willing to pay big bucks to nurses at this point, even those that refuse the shot.

Some hospitals (OLOL) are just fricking stupid.

Nurses are leaving for better money prior to being fired (shocking stuff). This is an administrative issue as much as it is a Covid issue.

Got it. Well next time you break a leg, or end up in a car accident hopefully they can treat it on scene because you won't be able to find a hospital bed.

You have lost your mind. This is 100% bullshite and not hard to look up as an outright untruth.. Stop the damn lies and fear mongering. If you don't know what you are talking about just stop typing.

So what do hospitals do to combat the nursing shortage? They mandate every employee to get vaccinated or lose their jobs. That sure will help fix the nursing shortage and sick Covid patients!

I will ask you the same question I asked the last person who brought this up - are you aware of a single hospital on Louisiana that has actually fired nurses for not being vaccinated?

They are banking on either a) all of their nurses complying with the requirement or b) the number of COVID hospitalizations being way lower by the time those requirements go into effect. If OLOL were currently laying off unvaccinated ICU nurses in the middle of this wave, I would agree with you. But AFAIK that is not the case.

Again, the nursing shortage - particularly the shortage of ICU nurses - is real. They are paying massive incentives for nurses to take extra shifts and in many cases are running with more patients per nurse (which is problematic in the ICU). A lot of the fault lies with the hospitals for not preparing for another spike by cross-training during the downtime, but the problem still stands.

The fact that multiple people seized on this statement out of everything I wrote in that post bothers me a little, for some reason.

13.5% of all emergency room visits in Louisiana are people coming in with COVID-like symptoms.

Is that a lot?

Think about it. With NOLA, BR and Shreveport, I'd guess that just as many present with gunshot wounds as the sniffles

Personally I suspect it’s only a matter of time before President Blunder decides that any hospital with patients covered under Medicaid or Medicare will need to have their staff vaccinated. Much like the decision for nursing homes. The hospitals taking steps already are probably just preparing in advance for the clusterfack it will become.

What decision for nursing homes?

But he is framing it as a “look how bad this is with all of the patients presenting with Covid like symptoms.” I am saying there is no need for that. Just give us the numbers of those that actually have Covid

Covid like symptoms...

When did this happen?

I missed it

ETA
Found it

Not sure how I feel about this
Every time staff tests positive they stop visits
All in all I’ve probably only visited my Grandpa 5 times since March 11, 2020

On the other hand if this causes a bunch of people to quit his care is going to be worse than it already is

All I’m saying is that the vaccine requirements are not really a factor in the current staffing issues. If they were, the hospitals that don’t require it would just pick up the slack. BRG would be seeing an influx of ICU nurses from OLOL. But BRG is understaffed as well.

No argument from me on this point. The entire system is broken at just about every level as far as I’m concerned. I just don’t know why people are trying to pull a “gotcha” on my comment that the shortage is real, while ignoring my next statement that this isn’t keeping people from getting medical care when they need it.

Not sure what your job is, but you seem to be the one misinformed or not very good at your job, unless the nurses and administrators are "lying" just to create fear.

Please post links to factual evidence that hospitals / ICU’s have no available beds

I have already posted bed availability for both per today’s Covid report from LDH & all regions have available beds

Traveling nurses are in HIGH demand. That is where the big bucks are. Why the hell would they stay in BR when given a dumbass ultimatum. Good for those nurses that bailed.

How many kids have died from covid here?

Last I looked, it was 10 and that wasn't "kids", just 18 and under because that's the lowest age bracket. Not sure if there were any major comorbidities associated with these deaths, but I wouldn't be surprised.
