EBR economy in free fall?

Says that sales tax collections declined 15% year over year from April to April.
That sounds like an enormous drop to me....can't imagine if the broader economy dipped even 1/10th that much.
If this persists in BR then things will get ugly pretty quickly.

We opted out Jan 1 when it became an option.

Possibly due to St. George breaking away

Wait until they have to cut the check to St. George.

This is bad information. Baton Rouge economy is doing as good as ever. You can notice when there is a decline. I see lines everywhere and people spending everywhere. This is fraudulent data probably because St George.

Inspection sticker check points and people waiting to pay bail at police stations don't count

Averaging March & April its around a 5% drop, or a little over $1M...which about $250k would be vehicle sales decline (highly volatile).
Sales Tax collections can be a bit fickle when looking at it month by month. For instance, March 2025 had 5 weekends (more spending) with the last day falling on a Monday. March 2024 had 5 weekends but the last day fell on a Sunday, so weekend collections in March 2024 might not have been recorded until April 1.
Start panicking when there's a trend even when averaged out quarter by quarter.

Your eyeball test is definitely more concrete than the actual numbers.
