The question is, do you think that the police are going to be breaking into your car and rifling through your shite based on what the article states?
I think this is entirely possible. Like I said before, I don't need any "help" from cops unless I call them, nor do I want them putting trash on my car any more than I do the chinese take out place.
Cops will use any reason to initiate a "search", and I certainly believe this is one of those things that can get them closer to that point.

but does it say they are going to be opening doors?

Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said deputies would check for unlocked doors
Not sure how you check for an unlocked door without giving the handle a grab. Not all vehicles have the lock/unlock button on top anymore, many are down on the side of the door a few inches below the lip of the door, also tinted windows can hinder the cops' ability to see if its locked as well.

Maybe I'm being a bit hyperbolic, but haven't gov't programs that, in the past, been "for our own good" turned out to be not so much?

So now you want to do away with all police forces?
quote:
EBRSO hit up our HOA with flyers of trumped up crime rates in our area in the name of safety patrols. The sheriffs asked for a pretty penny to do the patrolling which was passed on in HOA dues. One week of patrolling led to residents getting tickets on their parked cars from the "crime preventing patrolling" methods.
So how are they any different from the Mafia?

You can look in the window on most cars, if not all. I guess Sid will have to clarify that.

Nice, write em a ticket for tinting.

Well, it's possible, just like it's possible now. It's possible cops can go around stealing your car as well. Or shooting your windows out. So I agree, it's possible, but this won't change that possibility.

That's why there's a judicial system to tell them what is reasonable. They can't just make up the rules. The Supreme Court decides this.

I have a waiver from when I was a LEO, so I'm good.

Ummmmm....the mafia doesn't enforce the laws on the books?

Because we coddle police officers.
Posted on 3/18/14 at 4:24 pm to Napoleon
Haha...I agree but I had the tint before, knew I was quitting and applied for it before I quit.

How many videos have we seen on here where they have done just that?
I don't believe a badge and a writ gives them some superhuman prowess. They are fallible just like the rest of us.

Um...isn't this the same department that ignored a Supreme Court ruling and arrested people for sodomy?

Zero.
I've seen videos of them breaking the laws, but none of them making up the rules. And I'm all for cops that break the laws getting punished just like everyone else.

Good for you. I don't either. And they absolutely are fallible like the rest of us. What separates us is that you believe all cops are bad, and they're not. Just like all women aren't evil.
I'll ask you again, if they stand outside of your car, and look inside, what law are they breaking? Do you want to change the law so that cops would be disallowed from looking into your vehicle?

You are very wrong here. I have kith and kin in law enforcement. All good people. I was partying at the st. Patrick's day parade with some off duty officers. I don't needlessly antagonize cops.
What I am against is the system that shields bad officers and promotes an idea of the "us vs. them" mentality and that cops are somehow above the law.

Evil?...no.
Crazy? Definitely.
Doesn't mean I like them any less.

Well, just saying....

So cops are about to start either stealing our stuff themselves, flagging our cars to make it even easier for thieves, or conducting completely illegal searches and breaching our property?

Well, we agree on this. I am completely against that mentality, or cops thinking they are above the law. And I'll go back to my original point again, if they stand outside and look in, and don't go inside your vehicle, how would that make them above the current law on the books?

If this is all it is?
Still a waste of manpower and tax dollars, just like inspection sticker checkpoints.
Now if they wanted to start doing these "helpful reminders" in NBR, where statistics show a large amount of the violent crime is, then more power to them.

And that's the never ending cycle on the OT. Rash of burglaries, citizens scream that their shite is getting stolen and something needs to be done. LEO proposes something, citizens (OT) screams that it's a waste of manpower and tax dollars. Either way they go, the results are the same, "LEO sucks".
