Hmmm...
Festus, if a woman has sworn up and down that she wouldn't do something before, only to do that very thing until she got caught, then apologize profusely.
And repeat this same pattern again and again...
Would you trust her to behave in the future?

EBRSO hit up our HOA with flyers of trumped up crime rates in our area in the name of safety patrols. The sheriffs asked for a pretty penny to do the patrolling which was passed on in HOA dues. One week of patrolling led to residents getting tickets on their parked cars from the "crime preventing patrolling" methods.
I guarantee if you start putting out flyers advertising your pressure washing service and the HOA complains to the cops, you'll get a ticket.

Wait...I thought I was being paranoid?

Hmmmm....fr33manator, I've reconsidered and you're right.
The article states they are going to check for cracked windows, plain view valuables, and locked doors. Your statement that they are about to start stealing your stuff and conducting completely illegal searches and breaching of your property seems to be a reasonable reaction.
And your comparisons to the Patriot Act, where a law was actually changed, to this, is completely valid.
Don't know what I was thinking.

I just don't trust it to stop at just "leaving a note"
Unless by "note" they mean a "ticket"
Which apparently they've done in some places already

To write a ticket, you would have to have broken a law. There is no law against leaving your car door open, window cracked, or valuables in plain sight. Think about this for a second.

This is what I am referring to.

. They're not gonna be writing tickets.
One thing BRPD has been really enforcing lately is writing people ticket for being parked facing the wrong way on the street. I hate that rule especially if you are in front of your own house. $40 ticket. Doesn't get me, but my tenants call bitching about it all the time.

I'm glad they do this. It is just lazy to park that way and be facing oncoming traffic.

Yeah, I guess I should have clarified. They will still be writing tickets for breaking the laws. That's not gonna change. But unless they change the law to make unlocked doors, windows left cracked, or leaving valuables in plain sight illegal, they won't be writing tickets for that.

Paranoia. You're jumping from cops leaving a note on your door to lock up, to a money grab. It's the same old mentality, jump in the frenzy without reading the article.
Do you really think that people need the police to leave a note telling them that their doors are unlocked? You think this is an effective way of assisting the public?

That's a whole separate discussion. The question is, do you think that the police are going to be breaking into your car and rifling through your shite based on what the article states?

A car can't kill someone if it rolls over them at 20 mph?

I think it is a very poor use of time and resources. I don't think people need the police leaving notes telling them that their car door was unlocked. I think it's insane to think people need that.
And, because of all of that, and because of the tendency for police to go too far, it a likelihood that this bad policy will lead to negative consequences.
Would you be ok with the police checking the windows on your house?

If they check your car and find that it is unlocked and say smell Marijuana, do you think they will let it go?
Actually BRPD may, they are awesome when it comes to pot.
Kenner wouldn't. But then again I had a break in on a car when I was 18 and home for summer. I called the police and they sent a crime scene unit to get prints. The officer was like "the perp left an ashtray full of marijuana roaches in the ashtray, you may want to clean that out"
