Does anybody know what’s up with the old Shell gas station on government street?

Near the corner of Government and Acadian across from the Walgreens. You would think somebody would’ve bought it and gotten rid of the eye sore. All that it’s used for that I know of is for storing construction equipment when they re-did government street

I’m still surprised the station facing AM Market on College closed and never reopened. You’d think that location could print money.

May be a hot potato piece of property if it still has old fuel storage tanks or oil saturated ground. Once sold, it has to be cleaned up to EPA standards before anything new can be built.
If old owner can't pay for it, then new owner must.

Nobody wants to compete with the "newer" Shell down the street Gov't and Foster?

Great spot for a restaurant or micro brewery when Covid is over.

Actually the church looking building a couple of blocks east where that rug place used to be....THAT would be a better brew-pub.

That was a church before it was a rug place. It is a cool building. I bought some rugs there a long time ago.

My brother was trying to buy a piece of commercial property, deal got stalled when it was discovered the site had once been a gas station even though it was torn down in the 1930s.

the story i have heard about the shell station is the old man who owns it refuses to do anything with it but let homeless people camp there. he supposedly bought a grill for them to have something to cook on.

The Sarkis rug place was the Assembly of God church before Sarkis bought it. Front Yard Bikes bought the building when the first buyers plans fell through

if it is in a flood zone, the regulations for gas stations are insane now. elevate the ground, special tanks, etc. might be incredibly expensive to start from scratch

but I agree, that is a great location

In a former gas station. What could go wrong?
