When checking the air in your vehicle tires, do you use the settings off the tag in the driver's door, or do you use the rating on the side of the tire?

Side the tire...

Door ratings are usually for the best ride correct...

Wasn't it a few years ago where Ford had issues with Explorers blowing tires and flipping because of their recommended tire pressures...?

I have aftermarket wheels/tires, so I go with what's printed on the sidewall.

The tire. I knew a Dealer that used the plate in the Door, debated with the Service Director about it. Put a new set of tires on my Truck, took it in for an Oil Change and they under inflated bigger than shite. I enjoyed showing that know it all that I was right all along!

I just eyeball it. When it looks full enough, let's ride.

Use what the dealership tells you. Most of the PSI listed in the door jam and on the tires are lower than what they are supposed to be set at.

The door tag rating is what the vehicle was designed for and the vehicle should achieve the EPA ratings with that pressure.

The sidewall rating is for maximum load so unless you are using the tire at max load you will be over inflated.

You'll get slightly better gas mileage with slight overinflation but may get more center wear and experience a rougher ride.

Why, pray tell, would you use the generic one on the door? They don't know what tire you are putting on there.

i go lower than the door rating because with my current tires, the door rating domes my tires and causes them to wear unevenly (aka, more in the middle of the tire as opposed to spread evenly). In addition, it makes for a much louder ride.
