Do you and your significant other share a bank account, or do you each have separate accounts? When it comes to bills, if you have separate accounts, do you join together to pay them or designate who pays what bill?

In a nutshell, how do you handle finances in your relationship with your partner/spouse?

Before we married, we decided we were going to have separate accounts. That lasted about a month. Luckily, we have the same views on money and spending.

I have my own account. I pay all the bills for our main residence, daycare, we split cell phone and auto insurance.

She has her own account and she handles the bills for our rental property.

We have shared savings and split groceries, 2 trips a month each.

Nope.

We have 3 accounts.

A common bills account that we share. Money is taken out the pay checks and directly goes into this account and all it’s there for is direct drafts for each bill.

Then we have our own accounts and we do what we please with that money.

As long as bills are paid, i DGAF what she buys with her own money just like i am not gonna explain why i bought something. I worked for that and wanted it so i got it

We do have a joint account, which is used to pay for household expenses, bills, dinners out, etc. We both put money in it each month.

However, we have both maintained our personal bank accounts as well. I think it's a healthy way to go about combining finances, and it's worked out great for us thus far.

Totally separate, but we have joint savings account.
I pay bills, she buys groceries, pays financed furniture bills and her truck note.

Shared accounts for 21 years. We know how much money we have and trust each other with spending.

I have my own account and pay just about everything. She has her own account and pays utilities. We have a joint account that is more like a savings that I put money into and she spends.

We have a general house account that pays our bills and things we do together. We also have a personal account for each us. We give ourselves a monthly allowance to spend on extra stuff. Like if I want to buy a video game or shite like that. Of course, that’s after our retirement and savings are pulled out.

That's about like us. 95% of our money is in shared accounts. We just put aside a little money every payday that we each spend on whatever we want. We don't split bills or anything like that.

We have one account and our credit cards are also shared. But we both have the same spending habits. Neither of us go out and spend crazy. 99% of our spending is on groceries, gas, mortgage, house bills, etc. We just don’t go crazy and want to buy anything else. If one us did then we would have to consider splitting it up but we’ve been married nearly 10 years and together 15 so I think we are ok.
