re: Do you pay for someone to cut your yard?

A lot of retired folks on here cut their own grass. Which makes sense, because you are retired. You don't have a job and you don't have any kids in the house. If you have a couple of newborns and work full-time or overtime, then saving a few hours on the weekend for a larger lot makes a big difference and is worth the money.

I know a lot of “rich” people who do their yards themselves. They don’t believe in wasting money on something so easy to do. Like I said earlier, unless it’s multiple acres, it doesn’t take that long to do. I have 3/4 of an acre I do in less than an hour. I like wasting my money on other endeavors.
I mean I have enough money to “waste” it on having some cut the yard as well as “other endeavors”. And we have bigger than an acre.
I enjoy working in the garden so I handle that myself. But with both of us working, it makes far more sense to pay someone to cut the lawn. We also pay to have the fiancé’s parents done as well.

Yes. One of the best decisions I’ve made. My job takes 50 hours a week to stay on top of things. After deciding to pay someone else to cut and pay for someone to spray for weeds, my yard looks fantastic and I have my weekends for whatever comes up or what I want to do. I have never had to turn down doing something I want on a weekend for yard work. And, I decided not to sweat the small stuff if they don’t do it perfect.

Thread is proof that you just never know what will get people going around here

Everyone does things differently. I have worked since I was 16, been mowing since I was 9. I was raised to take care of things myself instead of wasting money. My dad made a ton of money and always mowed his grass (except when I was old enough to do it, once I left, he resumed).
Again, everyone does things differently. I will continue until I am unable to physically which will probably mean I’m dead.
ETA: I did all this while raising 3 kids. I never missed anything. They are out of the house now. To each their own.
It’s not like anyone is going to change what they are doing because of this board. I wear what I want, mow my lawn and try to enjoy life the best I can. That’s all.

We pay for the lawn to be done and house to be cleaned every 10 days. That way we never have to worry about either beyond doing little in between things. And we never have to miss any plans we may want to do.

With work, kid sports and hot as hell in Tampa is worth the $30 every few weeks

i did when my kids were very young.
but I’ve resumed my duties as lawn artist and landscaper. I prefer it this way no matter the time of the year.

No. I cut mine twice a week. Zero turn. Good book listening time.

I could also spend to have it done, it would be very easy to do that. Just not what I want to do. It is what it is. Some people have it done and some people take care of it themselves.
Honestly, there is no right or wrong here.

Absolutely not, and never will.

Do you also wash your own car once a week or pay for that?
Posted on 6/15/25 at 7:18 pm to kciDAtaE
I run my truck through a car wash that takes 5 min.

I hand wash my car at least once a week. And I pay someone $20 to cut my lawn. It’s tough to find time to do everything. Sometime you have to pick and choose.

I feel that, I have 2 acres so $20 wouldn’t get me far.
