“Construction of the pipeline on Army Corps land bordering or under Lake Oahe will not go forward at this time,” said a joint statement from the Department of Justice, the Department of the Interior, and the U.S. Army. “We request that the pipeline company voluntarily pause all construction activity within 20 miles east or west of Lake Oahe.”

100% side with Native Americans. And f'k that private security firm that let a pittbull loose on that pregnant woman who was there.

the Sioux should be given a little latitude here given the rough history between them and non-natives?

Along the same lines

Are they actually natives? Or are they just more native than most?

This must be serious to get them all out of their double wide traIlers and away from the fire water. Burial sites are a thing of the past, literally. Get over it.
Speaking of all things injun, I can't wait for them to bitch about everything so much that we stop naming teams after them and people don't even know they existed 100 years from now. If any entire race is guilty of having the "Death Rattle", it's the Indians. Barely hanging on. Inbreeding as fast as they can to stay alive.

I've spent my whole adult life building pipelines. Once the work's underway and the route is set in stone landowners come up with dubious objections to up their payout. All landowners do this. They'll get paid, (again),and their recently discovered sacred ground will become non-sacred with the stroke of a pen. Non-story.

So this has really become the latest instance of hashtag activism out there. Any further opinions on this?

I read an article about some locals saying that everyone coming from out of town are in for a harsh reality once the Dakota winter really sets in.

The pipeline path has been known for years and comes no closer than 1-2 miles from their land, yet all of a sudden that the construction is close they are finding reasons to protest? Give me a break. Its all about getting paid here.

The protestors are trespassing, so I'm sorry if they aren't happy with the security firms methods of controlling their lands but they should not be there anyway.

Actually isn't their land, but please keep repeating the narrative.

It is not their land. The ND Public Service Comission Made a statement about the line. Public meetings were held and the tribe contacted. Not one person participated. The entire route of the pipeline was surveyed by archeologists and the route changed 140 times.

The pipeline is not on their land, its 1 to 2 miles from their land. They are protesting a bunch of BS now that it is close to be paid. If the "burial site" and other things were such a big deal to them, why would they wait until now?

Well in a sense everything was their land at one time, but no this isn't their reservation.

They just recently discovered a burial ground a mile away from the pipeline. Convenient huh?
