Correct. A CSA. A CSA has a commuter threshold of 15%

Mandeville is in the Nola CSA because it has at least 15% commuters. It is no longer in the MSA because it has less than 50% commuters

The city has gotten so insular I don’t think anywhere has over 50% commuters anymore… not even Metairie or Chalmette

You do realize that most people that live on the Northshore work on the Southshore??

This is not true at all.

You’re telling me it’s just the opposite

Why is south bound so jammed up every morning?

I’m talking about the 60s and 70s. Back then, nobody thought Mandeville was a suburb on NOLA. I’m sure, as others have pointed out, it has changed.

This whole metric of using percentage of population that commutes is very deceptive to the current reality. It ignores an almost 3 fold increase in population over the time period. Saying that because it has fallen below a 25 percent commuter ratio dismisses the increase in commuters in reality.

For example lets say 25 percent of the population commuted to New Orleans in the 70's. As the population was around 110 thousand in 1970 that's loosely around 28 thousand people commuting daily.

Well today the population of St Tammany is 275 thousand people. Even if it has dropped to 15 percent today that's around 41 thousand people commuting daily. So even while the percentage of population commuting has dropped the numbers of commuters has increased by over 14 thousand people daily in the same timeframe.

All these percentages and numbers still don't speak to the impression in people's minds that the Northshore is now a more accepted part of the New Orleans metro than at any other time in its history... which it is.

It is really not jammed up with traffic in the morning. More and more companies are relocating to St. Tammany Parish due to a better trained/educated workforce and lower insurance & business operating costs. I envision in 30 years the Hammond Regional Airport will wind up being transformed into a commercial passenger airport to accommodate all of the growth taking place in Western St. Tammany and Eastern Tangipahoa.

It's not. It flows smoothly most mornings. If you want "jammed up," try I-12 from Juban Rd in Denham to the 10/12 split in B.R. That's jammed up.

Is Armstrong International getting overcrowded or something? And then Baton Rouge is trying to have their own airport

These arguments are idiotic. I hear the same type of argument from Houston proper people claiming that Magnolia and Conroe aren’t Houston suburbs.

If numerous local businesses that are Nola based also have North shore locations then it’s a suburb.

If there are a fair amount of people to commute into the city for work it’s a
suburb.

If the local news you get is Nola it’s a suburb for the most part.

Not every suburb has to be 10 mins away from the CBD. Burbs typically go up to 50 miles. Then you get into exurbs. Picayune/BSL would be an exurb to Nola.

I just get off well ahead of Juban and ride 190 into BR.

The census bureau thinks your arguments are idiotic since they’ve removed the north shore from the New Orleans metro.

Their opinion is data driven. Yours is based on your emotion and how you feel.

Other than Sal and Judy's I would not really put any other restaurant as incredible in St Tammany. Gallagher's is meh.....Il Porto in Covington is very good but you could skip. Keith Young's is overrated.

The one thing I can say is that the area hides its trash well. ....But it's there......very much so....lurking just behind the trees

Yes, people are trying to move to the Northshore to work at dollar general and chili's.

Plenty of good eating on the northshore and I don’t have to worry about my vehicle getting broken into and dealing with bums.

If my company ever open a satellite office on my side of the lake, I will almost never have to come across. A guy can dream.

I get this. I can tell you since COVID, commuting across the causeway has been much easier.
