Amazon’s latest faux improvement to its Alexa devices is called Sidewalk. Anybody who has an Alexa device is automatically enrolled. It shares your bandwidth with “neighbors” and some think also opens the door for unscrupulous hackers and data miners to peer more deeply into your personal information than ever.

It is being launched today. If you don’t want to participate, you must go into your Alexa app and disable it. Otherwise, you are an even more open book. Up to you. If you don’t do Alexa or Echo, just ignore this thread and move on.

Um, why would I disable this? It's Amazon. They support LGTBQ rights and are anti-racists. They would never do something unscrupulous because they truly care.

Re: Ring device. If you dont use an Alexa app with it, I’m not sure it matters. Check on a publication called ars technica for more info.

Sidewalk isn’t showing up my Alexa App

As i understand the location: More > Settings, > Account Settings.

The options i see are: Recognized Voices, Guest Connect, Voice Purchasing, and Workouts.

I did this last week and then decided to move away from Amazon Alexa devices.

All of the companies snoop and spy, so I am aware there is a trade-off for using their devices, but I find that Apple is the "best" of the worst in terms of privacy.

Don't have on my Alexa App. Wonder if it needs to be newer generation devices as my Alexa is a couple of years old.

Well, other than the fact that Amazon is openly doing this and it's been reported by mainstream, tech specific, and independent news sources.

you can limit access to an extent on phones. The least listening devices, the better. These smart speakers are only useful is you have them listening constantly. Phones you “can turn that off” and still be useful.
