There was definitely a feeling of distrust for anyone and everyone around the TL area.

Didn't he escalate to an actual assault after the peeping tom stuff? I remember reading about his record and thinking the multiple peeping tom stuff was itself bad enough, but he had escalated to some kind of assault that was essentially ignored.
There were murders tied to him in that immediate area in the 90’s at the same time as the peeping tom incidents. He was a suspect in those murders but they never could get him
This was several years before he became “the BR serial killer”

Bringing back a lot of memories, but something is off. There is no statute of limitations for second degree attempted murder.
Yea. I think there was a lot of departments feeling like idiots and flexed muscle once Zachary PD had it. They arrested Lee for peeping after several incidences there. The girl from the graveyard incident ID’d Lee and apparently her case was too old for her to be ‘sane’. McDavid knew Lee was their guy all along but had to deal with big time and politics

I had a random black male walk in to my apartment (I didn’t have the door locked) one afternoon, I lived across the street from Sharlo. He was acting very odd and it seemed like he paused a bit before deciding to leave. I’m a male so maybe not what this person was looking for? It was so odd because they didn’t say “sorry, wrong apartment” or “oh sorry, does so and so live here?!” Just stood there and made a decision to leave. I called the hotline and they wouldn’t even take a statement from me because they said I never filed a police report. Made no effing sense. I’ll never know if that was him but wish they would have at least taken me seriously. It may have not helped when I said it was a black male.
I was also working for Gina Green when she was murdered. I had just started 2 weeks before. I didn’t know her well but the office was an absolute wreck for a long time.

BRPD’s fixation that all serial killers were white was one of the biggest blunders of the entire saga.
That was because of the FBI. They came in town and releases the profile and insisted that it was a white guy.

The truck driver saying he saw a white dude with a naked woman in his truck didn’t help either

I worked at a Baton Rouge area car dealership during this time. State Police & FBI agents showed up one day & asked to review our temp tag receipts because a witness of the white pickup truck had been hypnotized and said he saw our dealer decal on the back of this white pickup truck and it had a temp tag on it. Unfortunately we did not issue a temp tag to the make/model of Lee’s pick up.

Randi Mebruer’s 4 year old son playing outside after his mom had been murdered is a haunting story. They didn’t connect her murder to DTL until 2004 or so.

I had no car, lived at El Cid, worked at the Chimes and had to ride my bike across campus after midnight to get home from work. I was definitely alert on those rides.
Guy I worked with at Chimes got called in for questioning several times (white guy with white pickup - the crazy eyes probably didn't help)
My best friend is related to the woman killed in Zachary (never found). Her toddler was found wandering (I forget if he was outside) but the house was covered in bloodstains.

I got surgery to get that fixed.

The girlfriend is named Michelle and she's very much alive. She wasn't raped either. DTL attacked them with a sling blade but stopped his attack when a police officer just so happened to pull into the cemetery. They were very lucky that police officer pulled in when he did.
Years later Michelle saw DTL in a grocery store and immediately recognized him as her attacker. She went to the police but the statute of limitations on the attack had expired so they couldn't arrest him for it.
Michelle is interviewed in the full version of this documentary.
Maybe ya'll can find it on demand somewhere. Imdb says it's on Peacock.

I remember the Navy SEAL washout that broke into Murray Pace's sharlo townhome "looking for evidence:
Made it through BUDS but got removed before getting his trident.

I feel these murders fall on the officials. Someone tried to tell them about a black man they saw, they ignored. Zachary PD knew he was no good and basically ran him out of town. Had anyone handled him as the scum he was early on, these ladies may not have died. Or at least less of them. And likely ignored other good tips bc looking for a white man.

The only thing I remember was my dad putting a baseball bat by the door and a 9 iron by my parents bed since he didn't have any guns
