Years later Michelle saw DTL in a grocery store and immediately recognized him as her attacker. She went to the police but the statute of limitations on the attack had expired so they couldn't arrest him for it.
Is this true?

There wasn't quite as much wall to wall coverage because social media didn't exist at the time (at least in Louisiana), smartphones weren't prevalent, and the internet was not quite ubiquitous. You were aware, but it didn't consume your daily life like it might now.
I was at LSU at the time. The girls were aware of a serial killer and let's just say they really didn't like staying home alone at night

My dad was a suspect for one of DTL murders.
He was at the house doing the landscaping when the police found her body.
That morning he went to the front door to put the bill in the mail slot. The door was cracked open and he could barely see in. He thought it was weird but pulled the door shut and knocked. No one came to the door so he continued on with the landscaping.
He was in the back yard when he heard several cars pulling up. Walked to the front and several un-marked cops were there.
Crazy part, at that time they didn’t question him ask him to stay, nothing. Thinking it was weird he went about his day.
A few mornings later the news released that his client was murdered in her home. Freaking out about the situation, he called the cops to let them know he was there the morning they found her body.
Oddly the police told him they had been trying to find him for questioning. Dad went down to the station was questioned for an hour or two and gave DNA. After DNA came back they removed him from the suspect list.
Another creepy note that I forgot to mention, her body was found right on the other side of the door that my dad had pulled shut. She was strangled.
Had my dad pushed the door open the slightest bit he would have discovered her body. Pretty eerie situation.

Wasn't a Detective from Zachary telling the BR task force that it was DTL, but they didn't want to listen to him because they were detectives in a bigger city (BR) and obviously were smarter.
I watched the A&E documentary last night and pretty much, yes. They had gotten him on peeping tom charges previously in Zachary and Chief McDavid felt like DTL was their serial killer. Baton Rouge didn't bother to take him seriously until the lab kinda stumbled upon the DNA matches.

I know we talking about DTL. But I can't believe the stories about SVG. One was he was so Brazen he stopped at carwash on Starring lane and pulled body out of car and laid it on ground next to the car while he cleaned some stuff up. Then put it back in car and left.
That car wash was close to highland road where probably 20000 cars travel per day

My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I were visiting my grandmother one afternoon. We left my grandmothers house in my wife's vehicle and went straight to her friends house who was preparing for a party that night. We helped them setup, stayed for party, and even slept there that night. One week later the girl next door was murdered. It was unnerving being that close to home but I didn't put much thought into us being in danger. A few weeks later they identified DTL as a suspect. His last known location was "at work" where he was helping to pour a concrete driveway next-door to my grandmothers house, the exact day we were there. His next victim was next-door to the house that we went straight to after leaving my grandmothers house.
We didn't put all this together until after he was arrested and they were tearing out the driveway next door to my grandmothers to make sure there were no bones in the concrete. But it has always bothered me that we were so close without having the slightest clue.

Yeah, SVG dismembered most of his victims it seemed where DTL did not.

Mr. Danny Mixon (RIP), the investigator that was credited with breaking the case, was a customer at the business I worked for at the time. He told us months before DTL was caught that it was going to be a black man. He said “they keep reporting that it’s a white man but they are wrong!” He was right.

Didn't he escalate to an actual assault after the peeping tom stuff? I remember reading about his record and thinking the multiple peeping tom stuff was itself bad enough, but he had escalated to some kind of assault that was essentially ignored.

He definitely had run ins with the law prior to the killings.

There was a billboard with the profile drawing on I think College and Lee, white guy with glasses and a hoodie. I wore the same hoodie every day and my sister later told me my mom was nervous it was me, haha.
My wife (no pics) played a sport at LSU and they changed the rules around practice and coming to/from workouts. Had to travel in pairs.
I lived in Oakbrook my freshman year and a good friend said a guy pretending to be a cop knocked on her door late one night and tried to push in. Luckily, she wasn't very small and had dated enough cops to know it didn't sound right. She was convinced it was him.

I was at LSU at the time. I can't remember if that's when I was living in Sharlo or if it went down before.
I wasn't particularly scared but took precautions. For night classes, if I was parked in student parking, I'd go move my car closer since we could. A lot of times guys in my class would offer to walk me to my car as well which I always took them up on to be safe.

Bringing back a lot of memories, but something is off. There is no statute of limitations for second degree attempted murder.

I saw an interview with him where he said he was once out victim hunting and he happened to lock eyes with another guy in his car that was also victim hunting. He said they'd never even met, but nodded to each other knowing that they were both hunting that night.

Yes. He attached a couple who were making out inside a vehicle in a cemetery in the mid 90's. He pulled the guy out of the car and hit him twice with a machete. He was the primary suspect but was never arrested for the attack because of a lack of proof
